Hi all,

I recently moved into my new home and the previous owner had a mobile repeater installed but it was configured for MTN. It is fully installed with a service antennae as well as an outside antennae.

The repeater i have is http://www.remotek.com.tw/R18-GSM.htm

Will this repeater work with the Vodacom network?

If yes, can it improve 3G signal? or only the normal GPRS signal?

If yes, does anyone know how to configure the dip switches on this device?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

According to the site you gave the url for it does not support the 2100 band used by 3G so it looks like you stuck with standard 2G (GPRS/EDGE) repeater. If it is just a repeater then it shouldn't need to be configured for a single service provider, it should work with all.

Thanks...

I dont mind improving the 2G signal. It has dip switches at the bottom of the device, surely this needs configuring?

From the description on that site I think those dip switches are to switch between the 4 different 2G bands. Jola is probably correct in saying that it is probably already configured correctly for SA providers

hmm, then why hasn't my signal improved? I am only using 2G at this point in time.

No effect on signal when plugged in or out. Could it be that the outside antennae needs to be re-aligned to the closet Vodacom tower? Is there a site that lists all the towers?

The 2G signal is very poor. It sits on 1 bar all the time. I am struggling to make and receive calls. And when i do receive calls, the conversation breaks quite often.

I am also interested in getting one of these gadgets, so would like to see you getting it to work. But have to run now, will follow this.

These repeaters only work for Vodacom or MTN, not both. I've got the MTN one.

thats easy
if still getting crap signal on vodacom sim then you probably have the mtn one, lol

I found your cellular repeater only apply to GSM850,GSM900,DCS,GSM1900.
It can't improve 3G signal,GPRS signal is ok.
could you possibly gvie me a photo about the dip switches?

Thanks a million.

I only had switch 3 on for both uplink and downlink.

Playing with the switches made no difference.

Who know's how to position this antennae and how to setup the dip switches accordingly?

The document really goes into technical discussion and i get a lil lost in reading at that level. Maybe someone here can explain it simpler?
