I have tried to search the forum, but there are tons to dig through.
So can someone who knows something about something please help me out. I'm staying on 384, so I saw Afrihost is selling at R197 I think and Axxess is selling at R196. So that said, which is the better of the two? I also read in Afrihost's T&C's something about being capped, I'm thinking of anything between 50 to 90Gbs a months that I will pull(I'm intensive on live streaming), so which of the two will allow me this without throttling my line?

And one more thing, is it possible to cancel my telkom account and having them not canceling my adsl access, all in one call?

Thanks in advance for reading through that and your help
Juan

On 384k you are in no danger of ever reaching the "hundreds" of gigs fair usage level.

Afrihost will be a different service to the Axxess one and they will shape the bandwidth.

The Axxess one is part of the IS R199 standard, shaped packages that some ISPs are reselling.

You need the telkom R131 phone line rental and the R152 ADSL service rental accounts to go with the uncapped account. Use Do1 and you will have a spare account for data with telkom, for when your uncapped may be faulty at times.

It's between the 'big boys' I would I say. According to the feedback it is pretty much between MWEB and Afrihost / IS.

While this is here, I'd also like to pitch in and ask for people's opinions.

I've tried to divulge an answer for which one to choose, but it's been quite hard to draw up a general comparison by going through all the individual threads.

Currently, we're with the Axxess Express + offering, the "512kbps [256Kbps upload]" package specifically - and we've got a 4mb/s line.

As for online activity, I play online games with regularity, such as shooters, strategy games, and MMOs. Videos are very common, both from youtube and Gametrailers. Torrent downloads aren't heavy, with about 15-20 gigs per month. JDownloader sees a lot of activity, and generally eats up most of the usage. In total, I'd say we use about 60-90 gigs a month.

Axxess would be convenient, since it's a simple update - but they make it quite evident that the service is fully, and heavily shaped. Mweb is very tempting, but the recent downtime has me weary. Afrihost is also very desirable, but it seems quite a few people have issues with throttled speeds.

So, yeah, I'm not overly familiar with these aspects, so any advice would be highly appreciated!

Kharrak ALL these products are heavily shaped and IS run a pretty solid network. Just stay with Axxess and if your gaming sucks too much get 1 GB prepaid unshaped for gaming

I am using Mweb on a 384K line and it is awesome! :)
The service is excellent as well.

I think it depends on urgency. Lets face it uncapped is a few days old and no doubt more options will pop up soon. If you want a true answer to this question, you have to let the dust settle a bit and things to "normalise" and then you will be able to get a better answer.

If you simply can not wait, well then it is a different question and then I would give Afrihost a try knowing that initially things might not be 100% stable

And for gaming, which would be the most acceptable? I mostly play local on 360 & PS3, and sometimes op EU servers. Afrihost mentioned somewhere in another thread that they are semi-shaped, so after hours the account will be unshaped. Don’t know if this would help allot for gaming.

For gaming I would NOT advise the uncapped accounts. The latencies i have been getting are ridiculously bad (>100) and I often DC from games, and this with no downloads running. I get better latencies on my old shaped caped account.

As for downloads, i would say any 512 package is good, on 512 they don’t really ‘shape’ as much as they do on 4096. I would say go with the people who give the best service. In my experience it is Afrihost, Axxess, MWEB, Openweb (not very happy with Keoma right now), in descending order of service quality.

True, however Afrihost and Mweb (I think) are semi-shaped, whereas Axxess is fully shaped all the time. I can live with semi-shaped, I've been on the express + all the time, while being in constant breach of the 10 day rolling period. As long as it's not shaped after hours, I'm happy :P

At the same time, I've also been looking at Mweb's business (read: Unshaped) offerings. Though we can't afford the 4Mbps, the 512k looks appealing.
