Afrihost throttling at 10gigs...what has Afrihost (not) done for you today?

Just got told by Afrihost that they start throttling acounts at 10gigs and NOT as Gian said in the Q&A:

"Initially you will be getting our standard service. (i.e.
certain ports are shaped somewhat and web and email are
prioritised.)

After you have moved 30 GBs you will be moved into a
different category whereby certain ports will be shaped
more aggressively. However, web and email will still be
prioritised.

After moving a total of 60 GBs you will be moved into a
different category where your line speed is throttled to
1024 kbps per second and certain shaping protocols are in
place."

We were lied to by the MD of Afrihost....as I got an email from them that said,

"Trust all is well :)
I see you have a 384k uncapped account. This works in increments of 10gigs.
We are also experiencing network congestion that has been escalated to IS and hopefully will have this resolved soon.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance."

Throttled at 10 gigs and not 30 gigs.......so they throttle slower connections sooner? Or all connections sooner.....

Afrihost has gone from industry heroes to industry zeroes in my book and I will be looking for a new ISP........

VERY disappointed.

Well they need to tell us what the throttle amounts will be with 384kbps.

What happens at 10 gigs, 20gigs, and so on.

Just passed 15GB on the 384 account with no throttling apparent as of yet... Is it possible that the throttling is being applied at random and not uniformly across their customer base?

Bizarre... I'm still getting the 30-35kB that I was getting at the start of the month. How is your general browsing speed being affected?
 
Give them a break !!!!!! This is still very new for them and the industry, They have had a deluge of people wanting their uncapped service. Throwing your toys out the cot is just immature and premature. Afrihost has been leading the way, and deserve a break for startup teething problems

Browsing is ok, if i kill the torrents first. No matter what speed torrents are doing, i gotta kill them to browse, so even when they doing 5kB i cant open a web page. But its only today, been between 20-35kB day and night till this morning.
 
Give them a break? Hows about telling all this upfront? I refuse to tolerate businesses that "hide" information when introducing a deal, if the MD says throttling at 30gigs then throttle at 30gis, don't suddenly tell customers it will happen at 10gigs. You have a right to be annoyed if you are getting less than what you paid for. I get appalling speeds on my line as I am 6km from the exchange, I can never download torrents and with rapidshare I get 30kb/s, so if they slow my line down then it will hit me hard. Saying throttling at 30gigs, and then changing it to 10gigs is not a teething problem it is misleading at best and a lie at worse.
 
yesterday i was hitting 150 kb/s, then i lost my connection and had to restart my router , now my max speed is 80 kb/s but averaging mid to high 60's.

i'm on 4mb uncapped with 512 speeds...:(

something that i was never made aware of when i signed on and i read those AuP!

it was essentially a 200gb account then and later i read on my bb that now the limit is 30 gb before it starts degrading.
 
I have done 15Gb and tonight downloading a patch from saix ftp at 4KB/s so it appears I am also being heavily shaped :(

I have used so much because I downloaded 11Gb Dirt2 (legit) off steam, thought i'd be ok and well under the 30Gb they mentioned.

I am definately going to Mweb next month, cheers.
 
If your still with AH and complaining about slowness then its your own fault. :)

I've since moved over to Mweb and have nothing but praise for them.

Will they refund a pro-rata amount if we cancel now? I dont wanna fork out another R200 for April
 
Throttling has kicked in at 15 gigs. Astraweb is going at about 5-10K, mostly 5.

I'm hoping it goes full speed at night, if it doesnt i'll just leave.

I've asked them the same thing, and the response that I've got is that only the people that signed up before 1 April will get a refund, because the FUP was not finalized then!

Can you believe it??? Their still changing their FUP every hour, and now they don't wanna give me a refund! I'm kinda p!ssed!
