Junior IT Technical Support Consultant (Linux)

Our client (based in Johannesburg north) is a leading Software Development House who specialises in the e-Billing and e-Marketing industry. Our client provides services to more than 200 blue chip customers and has operations in New York, London, Sydney, Hong Kong, Johannesburg and partners in North, Central & South America, Europe and across Asia Pacific. Our client is recruiting a junior Technical Support Consultant/Deliverability Consultant with 2 years plus experience in supporting a Linux environment.
Area: Johannesburg north
Type of position: Permanent
Remuneration: CTC negotiable depending on candidates qualifications, experience and skill level.
Minimum requirements
• 2 years plus technical support experience in Linux environment.
• Familiar with Windows environment.
• Senior Certificate
• Extensive network experience.
Job functions
The employee is employed in the capacity of Junior Technical Support and Deliverability Consultant. This includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:
Technical Support
The employee will be responsible for servicing the SA office IT environment. This includes all office workstations, software and other peripherals residing on the SA LAN. The employee will be responsible for updating and maintaining the hardware and software register.
Deliverability
The employee will assist in annual and weekly deliverability projects and goals. He or she will report directly to the Service Delivery Manager on all related tasks and issues. The scope of deliverability will include all environments and selected Client deployments.
Domain Unblocking
The employee is responsible for constant monitoring of the delivery reports of major outbound email campaigns for domains that are blocking our servers, as well as liaison with the domain owners and postmasters and follow through until the block is removed.
On-call Shift Duties
The employee is required to be on standby on nights and weekends as stipulated by the support manager. Shifts are scheduled according to a roster, and when on call, the support agent is expected to answer support calls and manage customer support requirements.
Problem Logging
The employee is responsible for logging all support queries into the Internal Query Tracking system and responding to emails via his/her email client or the eContact system.
Problem Resolution
The employee is responsible for resolving problems and escalating to the correct technical resources if he /she cannot resolve the problem. Problems need to be resolved according to the Service Level Agreement held with each client.
Incident Management Detection
The employee is responsible for monitoring system up time and morning infrastructure checks.
Incident Management Notifications
The employee will assist in notifying clients in the correct manner & time of any incident detected that may impact on their business.
Incident Management Reports
The employee is responsible for creating, distributing and presenting incident reports to a pre-defined list of clients.
Documentation
The employee is responsible for creating and maintaining documentation related to the support process, training and user manuals.
Trend Reports
The employee is responsible for generating trend reports on delivery statistics and problems experienced.
Feedback and Reporting
The employee is responsible for giving accurate feedback to management. This can be done verbally or making use of a weekly status report that includes the following topics:
• Incidents
• Downtime
• Trends
• Types of queries
• Training
• Other
