Gotta build a new Pc for a friend

Right, so a friend of mine comes to me, and say he wants to get a new PC, but not to sure what, so he says that i must get a spec for him, so he can order it. Right, so here's what i got
Motherboard: He said it has to support DDR3 Ram, and not to expensive (Maybe: http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?cPath=81_573&products_id=26316)
CPU: He wants the AMD Phenom 945 ( http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?cPath=21_556&products_id=23697 )
Graphics: He has a budget of about 2k for this.
PSU: Needs to support all of the above, and two harddrives(500Gb, 1Tb).

Can you guys give me some ideas so i can help him out?

get a cheaper mobo like :
M4A77TD PRO -- ASUS AMD Socket AM3, AMD770, 5200MT/s, 4xDual DDR3 1800 (O.C), 2xPCI-x16 (CrossFire), 1xPCIx1, 3xPCI, 1xATA133, 5xSATAII(Raid 0,1,10), 1x eSATA, Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound, Max 12xUSB, ATX R 811 excl. R 924 incl.

Add an extra R700 for graphics and get : ATI 5850 http://www.wootware.co.za/vtx3d-radeon-hd5850-1gb-pci-e-graphics-card-retail.html
-- If you really cannot go higher than 2k than a ATI 5770 will have to suffice i think.


PSU : Any branded 550w and higher (Coolermaster, Vantec, Antec, Thermaltake, Gigabyte).

Where can i get the MoBo From? and also, the power supply, will this do? (i know its over 550, but just making sure, cos it seems a bit cheap) http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/product_info.php?cPath=73_269&products_id=12941

oh, and also, you recommended a ATI Card? he said he would prefer a NVidia card, any recommendations?

At the moment ATi just have some better products than nVidia, from the low-end to the high. I recommend read Anandtech and online reviews of graphics cards, and try get an ATi 5850 if possible.

I'd go for the Corsair personally. Cheaper than the Vantec and just about the same rating as it (Vantec = 36A on 12V rail, Corsair = 33A 12V rail). Corsair also has a good reputation. both are MUCH better than that Coolermaster unit.

You see thats the thing..... PSU confuse me, cos it weird how a 440 can be the same as a 600....
 
There's no point at getting an nVidia card at the moment.

If you need to save some cash somewhere to afford the 5850 you could always look at getting the Athlon II 630.

That Coolermaster GX 550 watt would be my recommendation.
 
for 2k, you can probably get a pre-OC 5770, although buying a vanilla 5770 and OCing it yourself is just the same. The 945 is better for gaming, though there won't be a huge difference if you go for an Athlon. I would agree with Qwikslver, don't go lower than 550 watts from a reputable manufacturer.
 
lol... thanks for all the help guys, well the budget has shifted slightly, he can spend up to R8k. He needs a CPU, a MoBo, a Graphics card, and a PSU.
So the things i was looking at are:
Mobo: Asus M4A79-T Deluxe = R1993
CPU: AMD Phenom 965 = R1788
PSU: Huntkey Titan 650w = R796.

The graphics card is still being looked for. He's pretty certain about the nvidia part, cos he said he wants the physics engine. So i was looking at the Geforce 285 1GB = R3760.

not sure if this is all good?

Sigh, fanboys keep shooting themselves in the foot just to get what they want...
The 285 is probably the best that will fit into that budget. The 470 starts around R5000 (if you can find it) so thats a no go. If he needs physx why not try convince him to run a 8800, or 9600 as a pure physx card, and a 5850/5870 as the main GPU? And didnt see any RAM in that list, you already have some?

Yeah, he already has some DDR3 ram...

I'll chat to him and find out if he's willing to go that way....

But other than that, the rest of the rig looks good?
 
Yep dof imo.

Rather do what archer suggested. 5850 + a 9600 as dedicated physx.
285 is old and outdated Tech. Yes its still a good card but i dont understand the logic in spending R1000 more than a 5850. Physx surely cant be the motivation factor for R1k.
 
If he can't even spec his own box then he has no business commenting about physx. The 5850 being more powerful is gonna kill any Phsyx advantage anyway.

Never heard of Huntkey PSU...but then again I haven't been paying attention to PSUs either.
 
I cannot even notice physics in a game, i tried my 5770 crossfire on games and a 9800gx2 and never actually even noticed the missing physics.
 
Physx = fail imo. As far as I'm aware its a purely aesthetic addition. And DX11 has a physics engine built in, so get ready to say goodbye to proprietary physx. Open systems almost always beat out closed off, expensive proprietary ones. Convince him to get a 5870 standalone, beat the fanboism outta him I say ;) Otherwise, refer back to previous lacklustre suggestion
