I'm Currently using a Option card, and it seems this is the lesser one of the two. I'm experiencing error 692 and have not found any solutions like version upgrades or new dashboards. Can anybody help. The funny thing is, the problem never existed and then progressively became more frequent. Now it is almost impossible to connect.

Does my location (Witbank Mpumalanga) have anything to do with it.

Hi Radimpe

I don't know what versions you should have, perhaps forumites using the Option card can comment, also have a look in the FAQ thread - there is info in there about firmware & dashboard versions & how to get the latest versions...

Ok, I just had a look at the Option firmware file that v3g has hosted, and the filename is "Option-Firmware-3-1-6.zip", so I would guess that the latest stable firmware version for Option data cards is 3.1.6...

Radimpe, unless you are 100% familiar with updating firmware on devices & the danger of voiding the warranty on the card, I recommend getting a Vodashop or your Service Provider to update the firmware - or take it to Vodaworld & get it done there :).

Not sure about the dashboard version, I assume "VMC_V5_00_17_OA.zip" is a full Windoze install [based on filesize & that one does not need a previous version of the dashboard installed, and that it will work with either the Option or Novatel data cards...

Radimpe, what OS are you using? - I assume Windoze, but maybe it isn't...

4.02.0001 is the oldest software the very 1st issued software

4.02.0006 i suggest you get this software for ur datacard it`s not the lastest but it should sort out the "error 692 i take it`s a hardware failure in port or device".You u can pickup the CD at a vodashop free of charge

if u want u can get version 5

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Definitely the answer is 3.1.6 on the card and V5 on the dash.

I'd agree with ic on taking your system in, if possible. 4.01.001 had some uninstall issues that might affect you.

If you're comfortable with doing upgrades, go for it yourself. We've not had any issues with upgrading Option cards and only 1 Novatel upgrade problem to date (that I know about).

Thanks, I'm running XP home and last night uninstalled the modem with device manager. This looks like it did the trick. Since then I had no problems connecting first time.

I'll visit my local Vodacom shop and get the free CD. Once I've done the upgrade, i'll give feedback. I'll double check the waranty issues first though.
