Ever since I have been with cybersmart they have given me terrible service. My connection has always been below the speed it should be. I have had days where the internet just doesn't work at all.

Lately this has been even worse. I buy a lot of cap and pay good money for this connection. Yet I get horrible service and a horrible line. I have 7gb cap on a 384kb line at the moment that I payed too much for, and I can't even use it.

I make my money from home, over the internet so my internet connection is vital to me. I am losing a lot of money because of this **** and will definitely be leaving this ISP.

I think it is only fair that I voice my opinion. I have tried to resolve my conneciton issues time and again over the internet and the new issues just keep coming in.

My line has been tested by a telkom employee and the line is fine. The problem is cybersmart, they suck at providing good service.

The only reason I have put up with this HORRIBLE service is because I know the internet in this country isn't overall that stellar. But I sometimes pay R1000/month because I buy a lot of cap. So I definitely pay a lot of good money for this line, yet it totally sucks.

I have had enough. I am definitely switching ISPs. Cybersmart doesn't make this easy however because they anticipate you leaving, just like any other crap service provider would.

I don't know if anyone has received good service. I certainly haven't. Not ever. Why do I always need to call them and ask wtf is wrong with my connection? Why do I have to pay this outrageous amount of money for a totally **** connection? I won't anymore.

Again, I think it is fair to myself and others for my opinion of them to be posted here.

Cybersmart, sucks.

Yeah, well I think I will be around for awhile since I am not satisfied with the service they have given me. ;)

Like I have said before, it is only fair to the others that I post here so that they do not waste their time and money on this ISP.

I'd expect someone else to do the same if they were being treated unfairly considering what they pay so others can avoid making the same mistake.

Cybersmart sucks

I might point out that I am a cybersmart user and we did get an email on Friday / Thursday saying that latency would be up this week-end and that there was major work being done on the SAT 3 connection - frankly a week-end of slow speeds does not the ISP make :) - especially when you look at how consistent they've been compared to various other *cough* ISP's who are working their network to bits with all their "uncapped" offerings.

He says he has always experienced these problems, from day 1.

Go with Axxess Unshaped if you arent looking for the shaped uncapped packages. R19 a gig at the moment, I have yet to be disappointed with Axxess in the last 8 months I have been with them (even though I am using MWEB for uncapped, for my gaming I am using Axxess).

Cybersmart was my first ISP and while they had good pricing their service felt a bit amateurish at the time.

Hmm oki .. I can't really say much about that - I was just assuming a bad week-end would be the instigator for a bad-service type thing. I also make my living from home - daily on the work VPN etc and also on a 384k line. Oh well - I guess that american disclaimer might be true ... "your experience may vary" :)

In that case wtf are you doing relying on one ISP only?

Grab a bit of SAIX, IS and WA cap each and use whatever works best at any given time.

I don't have only one.

This is just my main one. Long story...

But I actually got this connection because I needed a stable connection and so on. That failed lol. I have a wireless connection and I have one with mweb now since recently.

I will discontinue my internet with cybersmart on the 30th. But I bought cap and I can't really use it at the moment and the internet totally bombed out random times earlier this month also. I had days where I just could not connect and it just kept dying in the middle of things.

My other connections are slower connections and aren't great to use them, thats why I got this one. But it is way slower than it should be. Also very unreliable. Usually I don't care. Got to me lately though. Though I do understand they are busy with upgrading the lines or whatever recently.

Still though, my problems have persisted long enough to justify my rants on here.

I'm not sure why you come to the conclusion that your connection problems are are caused by Cybersmart. You give no technical information whatsoever. :wtf: ??
Is it latency? Is it dropped connections?? Is it a bird or a plane???

Can you give us any more information other than the 'cybersmart sucks' rant? Maybe we can suggest solutions to you.

And I'm kinda looking forward to your "(next ISP) sucks" rant. :D

Somehow I doubt the problem lies with your account. If you would like I could test it for you and compare it to my CS account.

If they have persisted for so long WTF are you still using them exactly?

My thoughts exactly. You have to be really dumb to keep using an ISP if you are having problems "for a really long time", especially if you use the internet for business.

Damn, I am in shock. This is the second time I have agreed with you :D

They are really slow lately. Don't know why they just are. I have a saol.com account. Which is a cybersmart reseller and they are SLOW!!! And saol.com sells direct bandwidth from cybersmart. So Cybersmart is slow!!! It wasn't always like this though.

Its like they are selling more and more accounts but not upgrading their bandwidth and the routes become congested.

What they all said. Ever considered it may be your telkom line? Get yourself another temporary/prepaid account and check against that. Move along to another ISP if your current one doesn't suit you.

Never had a problem with them till the last month but their lines are seriously losing speed quickly.

Normal ping on online game I play is 300-350 and 500 ish at the "peak" times.

These last two weeks the ping has been 1500-4000. And while downloading and browsing some pages do not even open because of the poor speed.

But I will give it till the end of the month before I start looking for a better option because over 3 odd years I have not had more than one or two problems.

Did you read your email? It is beyond their control at this stage but is in the process of being fixed according to the second email.

Dear Customer

We are pleased to announce that we are opening another point of presence in
Jhb. We are doing this primarily
so that we make use of Seacom Capacity that terminates there. This move adds
another
layer of redundancy to our network as it gives us international and local
break out points in Cape Town ,
Johannesburg and London as well as access to both international cable systems.

What this means to you as a customer in the long term is that the latencies
between Cape Town and Johannesburg
should improve, particularly for customers in Johannesburg playing online
games. Johannesburg customers will
further enjoy improved international latency as the traffic will no longer need
to go all the way to Cape Town before
it can be routed to London. This is a fairly big project and has been in
planning stages for more than 6 months. Work
will commence on this project on Saturday 17 April and should be complete by
Friday 23 April. There should
be no outages during this time, however , there will be significant changes
done to routing which may result slow
internet speeds both locally and internationally.

Should there be any changes to this schedule we will post these changes on
http://faq.cybersmart.co.za.
Thank you for your indulgence, we believe the change will be worth it

Regards

Team Cybersmart

Dear Customer,

We have suspended our processes as per the previous warning because of
this warning that we have just received.

You are not expected to understand all the jargon but the essential point is
that there will be delays and problems during the next few days which are
completely out of our control.

Team Cybersmart

Please note:

All non-Restorable traffic as well as all Restorable on the
Spurs to all the cable stations on the Southern SAT3 Segment excepting Accra
and Abidjan, will be down for the duration of the power reconfiguration (4-6
Hours) from 00:01 UTC (02:01 SA Time) on the morning of 17 April 2010. In
addition to the below communication from Global Capacity Business, the NNOC
Plan Work communication process as used on previous such occasions is in the
process of being implemented.

Background You might recall that on 2nd February 2010 we had an approximately
2-hour loss traffic loss for both Restorable and non-Restorable traffic in the
middle of the Normalisation process that was at the time in progress following
the resolution of the problem on the Lagos Branching Unit (BU) off the coast of
Nigeria.
The cause behind the 2nd Feb failure was a faulty Abidjan (Ivory Coast) Power
feeding
Equipment (PFE) The Vendor (Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks - ASN), in
conjunction with the relevant SAT3 Landing Parties have since repaired the
PFE which must now be re-introduced into the SAT3 system. We have since the
2nd Feb PFE failure been feeding all power for the SAT3 Southern Segment
(Melkbosstrand to Abidjan) from Melkbosstrand Cable Station which is a very
risky situation as under such conditions the PFE redundancy status across
the full SAT3 Southern Segment significantly reduced. We unfortunately had
to wait for similar work on SMW3 (cable running between the Africa and
Europe Continents to which we Restore SAT3 traffic), which activity only now
gave the SAT3 Consortium the maintenance window being used below.

It is of absolute importance that this be done now so we can establish/fix all
problems currently existing on SAT3 prior to the FIFA event. Dear All As
indicated below this is the very short notification in order to localise the
fault on S3WS Southern Trunk. SMW3 granted us a window in order to perform
the necessary work to determine where on the P3 segment is the problem.
Below follow the sequence of events: 1. 15 &16 April 2010: Combined RET &
Restoration implementation - Patching breaks to all restorable traffic on
P3, except for festooning station traffic. Window: 0:01 UTC until completed
. 2. 17 April 2010: Powering of ABJ PFE & Reconfigure BU i.e.: * Power down
the trunk * Switch the BU * Powering up as follows: Dual end feed between
MLK and ACC on the trunk. ABJ feed to the BU. * All NR traffic as well as
all (R and NR) festooning traffic down for duration of the power
reconfiguration (4-6 Hours): start 0:01 UTC on 17 April 2010. 3. 18 April
2010: Determine the location of the fault on the P3 trunk of S3WS and the
next maintenance window. 4. 19 April 2010: Normalisation of restored traffic
- Patching breaks to all restorable traffic on P3, except for festooning
station traffic. Please note: For simplicity sake and to save some time, the
restoration implementation for each step in the plan will be performed
immediately after successful testing of the step. All cable station staff is
required to be at the station for the whole duration of the restoration
schedule and NOT just at the time their step is scheduled for. This is very
important and will ensure that no time is wasted, since the ORCO will move
to the next step in the plan if station staff is not available or cannot be
contacted. Attached are the following documents: 1. Restoration (and
testing) schedule to restore all P3 traffic, excluding festooning stations.
2. List of TSA NR and festooning traffic on P3, which will be down for the
duration of P3 trunk powering exercises. 3. Complete list of TSA Traffic on
P3 segment. 4. P3 URM Plan dated 26 February 2010. Sorry for the short
notification period, but this planned work is critical and we only have a
narrow window to perform it in. SA Time = UTC Time + 2 Hours Posted: 16 Apr 10
