Since yesterday(Saturday) I've noticed my youtube streams have been ALOT slower, around 40KB/s for any video if I open multiple videos it only goes to about 90KB/s. Loaded up my Telkomsa 5gig account and it streams any video at almost full 4mbit. Anyone else having problems? I doubt it's my line because my download speed is perfect 430KB/s on both accounts. so......
I'm currently on Mweb 4096 Uncapped

I thought it was just me... Yeah, my YouTube performance has been very dodgy of late! On a side note, how are you measuring the speed of your YouTube performance/speeds?

Yup mine too, if Im viewing a Youtube video from another site its 100% tho. :(

Well I'm checking videos I watched days ago when the streaming seem'd fine, Checked a video I watched on Thursday during the day. It streamed without having to buffer once @ 720p. Trying the same video now and it takes ages to start then buffers every 4-5s for like 20seconds. So pretty noticeable difference. If I login to my telkomsa account I stream the video just fine.

Think there was some maintenance work being done on the seacom cable on Sunday.

I haven't noticed any heavier shaping on Youtube. Youtube has iffy performance at times, especially depending on which servers the videos have been cached. I often find 360p videos buffer slower than the higher quality ones.

I'm actually experiencing further degrading of service when accessing YouTube. A standard resolution video is near unbearable to watch with all the buffeting... Do you guys think I need to nag mweb? I wouldn't even think about trying a 720p video with the type of performance I get from YouTube on my 4mb line!

M

I hardly ever Youtube - it's rare when I do it, but when I have, during the day - don't bother!
At night, seems to be okay.

I had issues watching youtube videos last night. I'm on 384k, but usually a little buffering is all that's required. It was terrible yesterday though.

I've been watching cnettv on my iPad and I would love YouTube to work the way the cnet does! Aarrrggghhhhh!!!!

Yup, Youtube has slowed down quite a bit, before though, it was the quickest on any ISP I've been on. Could the MWEB Rep please comment on this?

MWEB need to either acquire their own local google cache, and reflect the changes on their DNS servers, or they need to arrange a peering agreement with Internet Solutions which allows them to use IS's local google network. That will allow Youtube content to stream locally, alleviating load from mweb's international pipe

Youtube was flying at one point so fast would it load a 2 minute 360 so fast, now it cannot even go for 4 seconds on normal quality :(.

So I called MWEB last night and the "dude" suggested that I call Telkom and ask them to do a "port recreate"... tech support was a bit of an airhead, but am going to give this a shot.

One thing which seems to work for me is re-selecting the "res" you want to play it in where available. Ie click on 360p again, or 480p etc when you realise it's going to stream slowly. This usually gets my vids streaming way ahead of the buffer. Hope it can help someone else....

Damn, this uncapped is flying this morning. Streaming from youtube with no buffering, downloading from astraweb @ over 350KB/s. Some at mweb forget to close the taps ? :D
