So I told my son take the camera bag to the car on Saturday. As i was driving out of the driveway the car would not reverse easily, there was this strange resistance. I thought it was a flat tyre.
Apon checking I discovered that the camera bag had been put at the back of the car on the ground, waiting to go into the boot. It had been dragged underneath the car for about 10 metres, and was ripped to shreds. My hart sank, I walked away to try to keep my cool...
Inside the bad were 2 bodies, two flashes, 5 lenses, batteries, flash bounce cards, gorilla pod etc, you know the normal stuff you have in there. Basically the efforts of a number of years collecting, hunting down bargains.
Now for the amazing part. Everything works, one camera body has some bad scratches on the back surface, the outer edges of the screen but is still 100% functional. The other camera picked up a nick or two on the VG, but is 100% otherwise. A couple of the lens cases(each lens is normally in a separate case in the bag) got damaged, but all except one lens seem 100%. One lens( the 70 -200 F4) seems to have a new noise on it when one turns the focus drive, but is focussing fine and performing just admirably, just like it always has. All in all I think I got off very lightly.
Oh and i am looking for new Tamrac bag. This is the one I had before and I am thinking that another one just like it will be perfect.
And the shots of our little niece planned for that afternoon came out just fine, I love a happy ending...
So if you don't have a good bag, go out now and get one
