Very informative look at the "Raising the Flags on Iwo Jima" photo by AP photographer Joe Rosenthal.

P.s. lots of pics so quite bandwidth heavy and slow loading time for those with 384 lines (like me :()

Is that really the "most famous war photograph in history"? I would argue these two are far better known:





The two images are links to the article on boston.com's big picture blog. They also have the immediate before and after pictures of the above two...

Well "the most famous war photograph in history" is obviously debatable but its definitely one of "the "most famous war photograph in history" ;)

I immediately thought of the exact same examples, much stronger contenders than the flag raising one I would argue.
 
The one with the kids in it is the most famous one IMHO.
The one raising the flag is also used alot.
 
Off the photogaphy topic - but the war topic - I was left a dagger by grandfather quite a while ago and didn't think too much of it, other than looking quite good.

I decided to take a look and Google a little and I see it's a 1930s Navel Nazi dagger - ivory handle, solid brass scabbard etc

I've probably got the same one. Eagle and swastika on the end of the pommel?

BTW - A navel is your belly button.
