"Come and share your concerns about the astronomically high costs that
the government allows Telkom to inflict upon us.

The next ISOC-ZA Cape Town community forum will be a discussion on
practical ways for us to reduce these costs as well as ways of forcing
government to speed the deregulation and competition. We need your
participation.

There are some experts invited and ideas for cheaper access costs, call
charges and bandwidth charges will be discussed.

Hi Wiz, the mtg was held last tuesday, as yet no minutes to post. However, the mtg was based largely on what isoc za could do to bring awareness to the high cost of internet access in SA. It was attended by about 15-20 people across a broad spectrum ie. isps, it journalists, interested it/internet-based company principals, members of the legal community etc. I found it pretty useful, but will wait on the minutes as i don't have a names list before commenting.
I'll recommend making a bigger noise on this site before their next mtg as i'm sure more people would be interested in attending.

If its ISP-centric, then its understandable as S.A. ISP's dont know the definition of Competition. They seem to have the idea that CHEAPER is being competative.... if thats the case, why does MWEB have some many subscribers, they are FAR from cheap. SA needs to gear up for a "service" buisness as thats where value is... and the SA comsumer is not a fool, they wont run off to the cheapest..

Sorry.. a bit OT ;-)

No problem - not a big deal. I just felt sad at such attitudes since there are obviously a lot of mature intelligent competent people posting on MyADSL, and they write this community off at their peril.

Certain people on IOZ are members on MyADSL as well funnily enough
