I have vodafone 3g here.
I will be spending the summer at S.A in 2 weeks.
I want to know whether i can use my mobile and do i have to pay extra to use your service.
Thank you
Lil'G

Should be the same system for SA Vodacom 3G customers going to the UK, except swapped around, so there will no doubt be roaming charges, and your data usage in SA would be charged separately by Vodafone UK as roaming data...

Best is to also give Vodafone UK a call & double check though ;).

Your 3G phone should work in SA as per roaming agreements, but you'd probably have to get Vodafone UK to enable international roaming on your contract before you leave the UK...

According TO vodafone
heres what the said.

1 Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands, Isle of Man
2 Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Canary Islands, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Madeira, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican City
3 Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Faroes, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia,

Pay as you talk prices
Pay monthly prices with International Call Saver

Ive checked it out and roaming per min is 70p per min. (9 rand a min:eek:)
SMS is 40p which isnt bad
And data calls is billed at £1.30

They also enstate that ther country you visting shouldnt be "barred"
any suggestions?

The International Call Saver option saves up to 81% off international calls from the UK and 60% off Vodafone World calls. It costs an additional £2.50 per month on most price plans and is included at no extra cost on our higher-value plans.

You will save if you select Vodafone Flat roaming rate. This is for calls and for DATA.It will be nice if Vodacom customers had the same benefits BUT ITS COMING TO VODACOM

Why not simply get yourself a prepaid number while you are out here and buy charge vouchers?
Prepaid starter packs go as cheap as R3 :)
Your phone will definitely operate fine on any provider here - for 3G you could use either Vodacom or MTN.
Yeah, that's going to be cheaper, data charged @ R2.00/MB on prepaid, that's less than 20p/MB and doesn't have any nasty billing surprises when you get back to the UK...

Lilg, just make sure your Vodafone 3G phone isn't network locked - so you can put in a Vodacom pre-paid sim card & call 082155 to have it "Data Provisioned", or you could get an MTN pre-paid sim card - I don't know what the procedure is though...:)

If you are going to Y0use a prepaid system in South Africa.Use Vodacom because you dont have to change a thing on you laptop for 3G.Plus Vodacom is the Leader in 3G in SA and Vodacom is part of Vodafone.
