Woman lured pregnant teenager, cut open her stomach

A woman will spend life in prison for killing a pregnant teen she lured to her apartment, drugging her and cutting the child from the womb before trying to pass off the baby as her own.

Forty-year-old Andrea Curry-Demus, from the Pittsburgh-area in America, was found guilty but mentally ill of second-degree murder.
That carries the mandatory life sentence imposed on her. The judge also tacked on 20 years for kidnapping.

At her sentencing, Curry-Demus briefly turned around and apologized to the family of 18-year-old Kia Johnson, of McKeesport.

Curry-Demus had been telling her family she was pregnant and killed Johnson and took her baby in July 2008 in an effort to continue the ruse.

In finding Curry-Demus not guilty of first-degree murder in January, the judge said he wasn’t satisfied that her psychotic delusions allowed her to form the intent to kill.
