iPad 3G activation

Anyone want to share their experiences with bringing in iPad 3G from the US?
Is it really carrier unlocked? Macrumors forum says it is.
Are there any special steps to take with 3G activation?
How many tries did it take to trim a sim card to fit?
What is the best cell company for about 1GB/pm of data?

It's unlocked. You can cut a regular sim to micro-sim size yourself. Bit tricky but do-able, just google it. Otherwise get a micro-sim from Vodacom or MTN. They said they were bringing it out soon. Yes, It just works.

As for who's the best with 3G? I dunno. Telkom 3G might be the best all-round, MTN seems good as well and Vodacom is rumoured for some updates in the face of the new MTN unlimited announcement. Don't get a contract because 3G is busy getting cheaper by the day

Thanks. I've seen the make your own micro-sim tutorials, and it looks simple enough, and at .99c a pop I can afford to practice.
Didn't really think of telscum as a 3g provider, I'll have a look at that.
