Hi,

Pretty new to this, but my question is how does one connect to the net via my 6230 using my T41 laptop? I have searched the net with regards to the uses, benefits and differences of EDGE and 3G. I already have an MTN contract and provide 24/7 support for the company. At home I still have an antiquated 14 kbps modem, so obviously the EDGE connection will be a better option for logging in and providing support to the company via the intranet and systems?

Thanx,

HI hotdiggety first you need to Install PC Suite "this is the cd you received with your 6230" then connect your 6230 to your laptop via data cable. Once you have succesfully connected to the 6230. Go to new connections wizard, connect to the internet, setup connection manually connect using modem, type mtn as isp, *99# phone number Leave the username and password blank.

Right click on the dial-up connection scroll down to properties. Make sure the modem used is the 6230 or bluetooth modem depending on the type of mediam used to connect the laptop to the phone.

Access the menu on the 6230 and go to the settings menu scroll to connections go to gprs modem edit gprs settings edit access point type in "internet" save and exit.

Bluetooth connection can also be used to connect to the 6230 providing that your laptop supports bluetooth either via built in bluetooth adapter or a usb bluetooth dongle availible at your nearest cellular or pc shop. This connection can be a bit tricky as it is not 100% stable as at times but if you know what you are doing who will overcome any problems that you might experiance.

There is a different setup process if you are going to use bluetooth to connect to the 6230.

Hope this helps you
Cheers

I presume the T41 comes with bluetooth? If the bluetooth option is being pursued than first get the bluetooth working on the T41

Thanx for the input people........

The connections work. I had a permissions issue initially whilst trying to install the PCSuite 6.1. Worked around that and then upgraded to version 6.6 from the internet.

Both connections now work however I have noted the following whilst testing the two different kinds of connections.

Bluetooth:
112 kbps and inconsistant connection (drops every 10 minutes or so) in Primrose Hill, Germiston.

USB cable:
420 kbps and perfect connection in Kensington, JHB.

Thanx again to all for the prompt responses and assistance.

first you need to Install PC Suite

No way to do this without installing the horrible bloated Nokia PC rubbish?

If you are using Windows XP it installs the drivers for the phone without any need for PC Suite.
