No way of stopping it. But it sure as hell beats the Government taking it ;)

My concern is will they buy in 40% of the share of the farm or must the farmer just give up 40% ownership?

In the latter there is no way the courts would allow it.

Farmers must just give up that 40% stake. Absolute BS. You will soon see no fresh produce on our counters if that happens.
 
Ok, I'm not a farmer, but if I was and I was told I need to give up 40% of my farm for no compensation....

Lets just say The 40% wouldnt be worth anything once I was through. Try sell off all the equipment, burn my house and fields and then plough salt and lime into the ground and then get on a plane and make a hasty sexual departure from this place. Then they can have 100% of my farm and everyone is happy.
 
Gents, from what I have heard, the 40% shareholding will be conducted via the Goverment facilitating (paying) the share of the guys claiming land.

Its a win-win IMO, the farmers maintain control of the farm, they receive a cash injection from the guys buying into the farms, the people claiming land can get commercial benefits from the farms almost immediately AND food security is maintained.

Well, clearly some arrangements are going to have to be made for them. Perhaps, some living structures could be built as part of the investment? Or should there be no available land on the farm, there may be some houses close to the farm that could be procured?

IMO, the finer details could be laid out in a sort of Agricultural Sector BBBEE Charter.

Then you have the fact that most farms are divided amoungst the family must each shareholder give 40%?

This ruling wil be dragged out in the courts for years until the government gets frustrated and takes the land
 
I don't see how a community can run a farm successfully, too many cooks in the kitchen, some working while'st other do nothing, I don't see this being productive at all.
there will be way too much infighting and the poor farmer will most likely bear the brunt.
Why not give land away that is not being used like the endless miles of land in the Transkei?
Maybe create farms over there and employ a farmer as a manger, someone with farming experience.

Maybe they should test it first and see from there, not like they are doing now by "giving" away productive land which goes to waste but we still carry on giving more away.

Now with this I can agree with.

This sounds like the perfect solution to the land issues we have currently. Think about it as government buying 40% of a running business. They share the profits and they are entitled to live on the land. Their living expenses and so forth are then shared amoungst all the stake holders. This sure as hell beats farm land going to waste ;)
 
But what skills do the land claimants bring to the party, are they going to work for the farmer or Guv'ment and who see's to it that everyone recieves their share and that everyone besides the farmer WORKS?
Are they going to do anything at all to contribute besides dopping it up all day for free?
This is going to be an epic fail as there is firstly a clash of cultures and way of doing things.
Not too mention that you will have land claimants fighting over profits if any!
Can't believe this is the Guv'ments solution! when there is land that is not being used?

Our GUv'ment - taking something that works and fixing it till it DOESN'T.
