Pupils destroy school in protest of school trip

A TRANSKEI school has been left a shell after pupils went on a rampage, breaking all the windows at the school and leaving the structure in ruins.

Damage at the rural no-fee school is estimated at about R44000 after the pupils from Caba Comprehensive School ran amok three weeks ago after they were told that there were no funds for a tour to Queenstown .

Frustrated principal Thandiswa Mpama told the Dispatch yesterday that the pupils turned violent after they demanded that staff account for every cent spent at the school during 2009.

Mpama said she told pupils on numerous occasions that the school was not accountable to them but to their parents, therefore the pupils should bring their parents to the school for a meeting to discuss the matter.

According to her, most parents did not attend the meetings.

“Then one morning (the pupils) came in (all together) and surrounded the school. They came in singing, and they surrounded the school (before) breaking windows,” she said.

Pupils said many had fled the province and gone into hiding in Johannesburg and Cape Town after police started making arrests.

I'm really starting to think it's a cultural issue, this breaking/burning in "protest" actions by people. What purpose does it serve by acting in such ways - does it maybe mean that these people want to demonstrate their "power" or something?

Ofcourse it is. You only see one culture doing this. More than once a week now. No amount of counter bull****ting from anybody can hide / distort the obvious.

I know of one school that has been burned down 3 times, just get's rebuilt.

And it was with this knowledge that the Queenstown Tour audit came to a grinding halt.
 
If these little miscreants were forced to rebuild the school entirely on their own, and similarly forcing their parents to foot the repair bill their attitude to public property would change rather quickly, I'd imagine.
 
The school will be rebuilt with our hard earned tax money and next time they dont like something they will just destroy it again. Tomorrow they will protest because they have to sit under a tree to receive schooling. They will never learn....its in their culture to destroy everything and in twenty years time when they are still cleaners in a factory or collecting their grants they will still blame the whites for the mess they are in. Wake up and smell the roses kids. You are only placing yourself at a disadvantage.
 
Crazy... There seems to be this culture in Africa of if you're unhappy about something, destroy/burn something useful. If the train is late (because some guys stole the cables!) what the hell - don't just burn the trains, torch the station as well! Remember Pretoria station a few years ago? Just yesterday the DA erects corrugated iron enclosures around 'open-air' toilets. Nope - not good enough! The ANCYL destroys them because they want concrete ones. End result? Everyone's taking a dump in the open air in full view of everyone else again. The missing operative on this continent seems to be the word 'consequence'.
 
I must say, it's because of behaviour like this that I still support the old school ways of discipline where you got your arse tanned for far less. Even the most unruly kids wouldn't dare damage property openly like this because they'd be faced with the cops as a certainty and sure as hell wouldn't need to bother coming back to that school ever again. These days, on the other hand, the word "RACCISSSS" is shouted and everyone of higher authority quivers in their boots. It's fsckin' ridiculous.
 
Consequence? What is that? Can you eat it on toast?

The only thing that matters is here and now. There is no tomorrow. Drink all your money away; sleep on the job; kill your brother over an argument. Don't worry what will happen to you, that's tomorrow's issue.

It is NOT Africa it is South Africa which is busy going down the drain .

On topic, wtf you stupid kids, you damage the school because it doesn't have money for a field trip, how does that fix anything?!
 
Yesterday I was driving through the Transkei to Umtata.

At 9:30am there were kids in school uniforms all over the streets and in no rush. When I left at 12 the same kids were in the streets walking home.

This is not a once off thing for exams etc ... it's ALWAYS like this. I'd love to know what times their classes are.
