Description
Main Role:
• Our client is looking to add an experienced Unix Applications Developer to their team
• The position requires the individual to be experienced in systems design and development in a Unix/Solaris environment.
• The candidate will be required to carry out technical design and development, and systems support.
• The candidate will be part of a Unix Development team.
Key Outputs:
• All relevant documentation as prescribed by the client’s Project Management Standards
• Developing components according to the standard ECP process and project management lifecycle
• Testing and Implementation of relevant systems
• Technical problem resolution
• Development of components, script and other technical artifacts required
• Standby and support of the various environments
Duties & responsibilities:
• Technical support and enhancements of the existing Unix/Solaris systems, including application packages and bespoke development
• Trouble Shooting and Problem Solving
• Developing an in-depth knowledge of the client’s technical environment
• Provide progress reporting to the Team Manager
• Adherence to the change control process
• Support users of the client’s applications
• Periodic standby for the Production batch jobs
Requirements
Education & Qualifications:
• Tertiary qualification in IT or Computer Science
• 3-5 years experience in Applications Development including development within a UNIX environment
• Experience in at least one of the following development streams
o Knowledge of Unix/Solaris, including shell scripts, Perl and Expect
o Knowledge of Apache Web Server, JAVA, PHP and JavaScript
Technical Skills & Experience:
• Knowledge of database design and data migration
• Knowledge of package implementations and deployments
• Knowledge of HiPortfolio, Connex, Interlink, CheckFree Accurate, Smartstream, Obelix and their interrelationships
• Knowledge of external applications i.e. banking applications, pricing services used within the location
• Business knowledge of Investment Administration
• Knowledge of the Windows Environment, including .net development (C# and VB)
Soft Skills:
• Initiative, flexibility, pro-active approach and problem solving skills are required
• Strong time management skills to analyse business and technical requirements
• The ability to set and maintain high work standards to achieve goals
• Ability to work both independently and as a team member
• High level of integrity
• Good communication skills
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Ability to prioritise work effectively and must be organised
• Computer literacy in MS Office
