Govt admits SA telecoms prices ‘prohibitive'

Didn't the govenrment admit this back in Feb during Mbeki's SoN address? What have they done since then?

Why are they "challenging players to find a solution" when Telkom controls South African bandwidth? He just proved that all ICASA people are brain dead

ICASA? Dont you mean government - he's the Deputy communications minister - Ivy couldnt make it for some reason. Perhaps he was staring or pointing directly at the telkom reps when he said it.

More importantly - why doesnt the government do something about it rather than hoping a monopoly (telkom) will do it voluntarily?

Both ICASA and the government. Ivy should be fired and I know most smart users will agree.

This really drives me mad  Why can't they just reduce telecoms prices and shut up?

Because they make too much money out of the current setup.

I agree but since when is competence a criteria for being a government minister - just look at our Minister of Health.

Government will also (under duress) admit there's a problem in Zimbabwe or a problem with AIDS, but it doesn't mean they'll do anything about it.

Yes they will

Zimbabwe - Ignore and hope it goes away
AIDS - garlic and hope it goes away

You could call it the Ostrich Philosophy.
He hides his head under the ground thinking nobody can see him; meanwhile his huge fluffy body is visible for all to see and laugh at.

And it would be funny if it was a cartoon and not reality.
