I have been looking at various phones with the idea of using them as an EDGE modem, but the ones I have come across seem to have transfer rates only up to 177kbps (download), which as I understand it is way below the capabilities of EDGE.
Are there phones with better transfer rates or does one have to stick to a card for that?

the Nokia 6630 and 6680 are class 10 EDGE compliant, so they support 4 channels down (4 x 59.2Kbps = 236Kbps).
