Internet, 3G uptake to boom in SA

Short, medium or long term, exactly where everyone is gonna find this magic bandwidth to fit everyone on I'd love to know.
Rapidly falling "broadband" prices will be driven down to R75 pm for a 48kbit connection... S-E-R-I-O-U-S

Personally I dont have much hope for ADSL to drop too low. Most people ignore the fact that adsl is not just the line but the ISP cost as well. This makes your entry level cost around a minimum of R 545 Ex. (270 adsl, 76 line, +-200 isp). This is still too much for subscribers. Also, 3G is not doing that well. Sentech is said to be based on 3G and that fell over, Vodacom has limited coverage and connectivity and there is no guaranted service (contracts wont allow it) alhough they will sell it on a 24 month service. So, where to from here.
I would be impressed if we could have a service that allows 24/7 access to anyone or any home for less that R 200 all in. But, thats still a long way of.
China has 8 Mbits for $30 to $40 for the average business. We still struggling on 512 and heading to 1 Mb. I dunno, doesnt seem to hopeful. Even if the lower te price we still gonna be billed for extra service or bandwidth. Its a fat cow with huge udders, they wont shoot it in the head even if the Vet (ICASA) tells them to.
And ProAsm you right in saying its S-E-R-I-O-U-S. A Serious lack of patriotism!

I see this as a regular concern of yours ProAsm, what figures do you have as to our capacity ?
I'm not sure even what to look for in connection with that, or whether I would fully grok the implications if I did.
Can you maybe put together some figures to give a better idea of the amount of international bandwidth this country has available to it, assuming that Telkom release it as required ?
Who actually digs 3G?Would be interested to know. 
I mean I know everyone is on Telkom's case,but Hellkom owns 50% of Vodacom(http://www.vodacom.co.za/about/profile_shareholders.aspx) 
So My hatred extends to Voda unfortunately.

Bandwidth is a problem and unless the SNO has something up its sleeve, SA is in trouble.
It is rumoured they have locally 17000km of 600 mbit fibre backbone in place, internationally is anyone's guess.
Until you solve that problem and judging by the conviction rate, line rentals will never go away.
Its also one of the reasons the loop is not unbundled as who will then replace and maintain it... the ISP's - not a chance.

Copper theft is one thing but thats covered in the r87 that everyone pays for their line. What the majority contend is that Telkom shouldn't be charging us the additional ADSL charges (ie the r477 for the 512 package). After all its still the same copper pair.ProAsm said:
