I know you guys must be sick of hearing about instalations but hey i gotta share mine. In the past 18 months i have applied for adsl 3 times. Initially being told i was too far from the exchange then being told there was fiber between me and the exchange and finally was given the too far from exchange story again. After the last application was declined I was gatvol and sent a rather harshly worded email to Steven White not really expecting any reply but it was good to blow off a bit of steam. Well i was suprised to recieve a very pleasant reply from one of the network engineers who explained a few upgrades to the network scheduled over the next few years which may give possibilities for a connection.
That was about a year ago, well on the weekend i was clearing out my inbox (yup thats right i only do it about once a year!!) and came across the mail, I fired off a quick reply asking if anything had been upgraded in the mean time.
Well i almost fell over when my phone rang this morning and on the end was a telkom teckie asking if i minded him turning off my line so he could come out and test it!! 20 mins later he was at the house and testing. Well the line is "borderline" but they are quite confident that it should support adsl as is. I am now waiting the call for a instalation date!! Damn that 30gb/month is sounding good!!
Moral of the story.
1) Their are some really good people working for telkom, you just have to find them.
2) Keep pestering and keep reapplying if your line does not initially qualify.
3) This one is for wbs - How about updating your planned coverage, Westville has been planned for months now without even a coverage map given. People will only wait so long before moving on.
