Started negotiations with Telkom in May for purchase of ADSL for 512kbps bundle- Eventually forced to negotiate with the Supervisor to get things moving due to conflicting information given by staff for weeks. Took until July before installation- discovered actual speed received less than 100! When taken up with Telkom told that Telkom do not guarantee 512! This fact never shared throughout my communications (notes kept throughout by myself) and certainly is not in their advertisements - told that the only solution was to change to ISDN! or change my ISP!!
Below just some of the incompetencies that I have been subjected to along the way:-
1. Told by a Technical ADSL Support person that it was 512 Upload and 256 Download - When pointed out that I had documentation to support that it was the opposite I was told that his "manual" said 512 Upload! How is it possible that the Tech Support cannot even get that right?!!
2. Advised Telkom that we are only getting less than 100 and paying for a 512 package(therefore to advertise that you give 512 is misleading to the public and false advertising )the tech ADSL says to change to ISDN or change ISP = We all know that will make no difference as Telkom controls ADSL
3. When ADSL TEch support was advised of problems he did not check the line at all - just told me as above.
What I want to know is why are we all being held to ransom by Telkom when we are subjected to gross incompentencies and misleading dishonest advertising ? Where does one go from here to get what you are paying for? I do not mind paying for a good service but I might as well go with dialup at this stage -
South AFricans need to find a way to demand that Telkom provide a competent service at affordable prices . We also need to push for competition thereby giving Telkom a wake up call - deliver or your customers will defect!
