1.06 is not a security fix ... rather a bug fix.
They changed some API's in 1.05 for the security fixes which has broken a few extensions.
One of the problems of FireFox is that they change some stuff and thus break extensions and themes for a new release :(.

Fortunately I didn't notice any issues with the theme and two extensions I use.

Good news is that from 1.1 auto-patching will be enabled !
I'm still on 1.0.4 - going to update the "slow way" for the last time until 1.1 final is released.

Well, I'm now officially REALLY P1SSED OFF with firefox.
So pissed of in fact, that I feel like seeking out an alternative browser, because ?
THE DOWNLOAD MANGER IS A PIECE OF **** !!!
Sorry, I'm INCREDIBLY angry.
I've been downloading the Fear demo since 2pm - I was 96% done when my bloody ADSL connection reaches the 24 hour point and blips off.
Firefox was unable to handle that - the download just sat there doing nothing.
It wouldn't pause, restart or do anything else.
It really is the worst part of an otherwise excellent product and what pisses me off, is that the team has had AGES to make something better.
Maybe I'll try Opera or something, I'm really dissapointed now.
Yes, I hear you say, "why don't you use another download manager"
Because I don't want to - I expect my BROWSER to perform my HTTP downloads.

Hello BB_matt.
Totally.
That feature sucks with Firefox.
It might be best to disable this feature in Firefox.
But then as we are in South Africa and Telkom is in charge, we could portion part of the blame on their pathetic system of 24hr resets and 3 GB Caps.
My point here is that if your IP was fixed, this problem would not have happened in the first place and secondly, who would care if you had a 2 or 8Mb connection as that download would have flown in within a few minutes and lastly that 100 or 200Mb is added to your 3Gb usage although you essentially got nothing for it.
And furthermore now you have to waste another 2 hours of download time and usage to re-download the file.
So an already expensive service is just made more expensive.
Pathetic.

Well, luckily I'm on 30gig this month, so it's not a total train smash, I was just hoping to play this just now. It was a 5 hour download BTW ;)
Here's the Firefox bug page :-

Look at the date on the damn thing - over a YEAR and no progress ?

Do any of the browsers have download resuming that works? After many failed downloads with browsers of all kinds I just decided a download manager would cause far less headaches in the long run ;) Surely there must be a downloader FF extension floating around somewhere?

I haven't found 1 browser that resumes properly... I use leechget and reget with a flashgot extension.
seems to work for me..

I remember download resuming working long ago in firefox, don't know what happened. The upcoming release (september?) of Firefox 1.5 is supposed to fix this as well as add other features like automatic updating without having to reinstall.

Agreed. Fortunately I hardly download many big files via HTTP these days (thanks to torrents), but have experienced that before. I still use GetRight (i.e. an alternative download manager) when I need to download something big via HTTP.
Very surprising that nothing has been done, regarding that bug.

Yeah, it is.
After my little "rant" yesterday, I'm still using firefox :D
As everyone pointed out, other browsers don't resume downloads properly either.
The use of proprietry .part files has to be addressed, however. The negatives outweigh whatever benefits there may be. If firefox COULD resume, by all means, use a proprietry partial file format, but it can't, so it makes a bad situation even worse.
My firefox is slower than explorer..is this the norm?
