ADSL's price (at least the 192) is coming quite close to the R220 odd line rental for ISDN. Why isn't ISDN's line rental dropping also?

The 500 000 figure was the last I heard about a year ago when Nxana was telling us about how many users use ISDN, ADSL, etc. Or was it Dail-up?
I doubt anyone will move their ISDN account to another ISP, but with the ISP Price War going on with ADSL, I think many users are going to migrate to ADSL and will be looking out for good deals. Just hope Telkom can handle the pressure of 50 000 to 100 000 odd people all phoning for ADSL in the next month or so.

R500 per month != R700+ per month. Add to that ISDN being unshaped etc, I'll stick with it for now. But point me to an ADSL connection that costs the same as an ISDN connection on for half the month with the same amount of bandwidth used and I'll go for it.

The gap is narrowing!!!! But pricewise, ISDN is still about R150 cheaper.
Advantage ISDN : Unshaped, uncapped
Advantage ADSL : 24/7, higher speed
Note - if you're considering Axxess, add another R150 onto your final ADSL price, which you might have to do after 3 months anyway.
It depends if you ARE budget oriented, whether that R150 is worth your extra bandwidth.
Also, can anyone tell me if the WebAfrica offering is unshaped? This is also an issue for me - would love to keep my torrents going at full speed. I get about 5-7Gigs a month on 64Kb ISDN on weekends, mostly P2P. That would loosely be doubled if I went 128Kb. Not a bad result for ISDN, but that would have to be matched by any proposed ADSL connection for me.
Would love to go ADSL, but I think I'll stick with ISDN for now and see what happens. Not that I think ISDN is cheap, but R560+ a month will hurt me.
That is not total monthly for ISDN. there other things to consider with ISDN like line drops (pretty rare), reconnections and nobody is only going to connect on the weekends. well I don't. of course I get upwards of 11gigs in a month that way as opposed to 7gigs, but the price is still too high.
Don't even think about daytime surfing, and 128 will pretty much double your call charges as well.

Hmmm - I dont disagree, Fiveby5, but I was just looking at the most cost effective solution (and I did mention that cost goes up with more calls). Anyway, I try and keep some discipline for my connections. I currently have a 64Kb connection where my heaviest use is strictly on weekends. (And, touch wood, no line drops for the last 2 months). I do dial up during the week for brief periods to check movie times, mail or google an answer to a coding or config problem I might be having, but not to download P2P stuff for the night.
But you make a fair point. Heres a worst case ISDN scenario - A connection to the internet for everyday of the month during Callmore time, bundling channels to 128Kb (but I cant factor line drops unfortunately)

R58 - InfiniteCall
R336 - 21 connections(for this month of July), 2 calls per connections,@ R8 price cap/call)
