I must first thank MWEB for their consistent dedication in squeezing the living daylights out of the decent bandwidth Tiscali used to provide. Without their committed dedication I would not yet have made the plunge to ADSL!

Welcome to WebAfrica - my new ISP. Geewiz, my first ISP's were Pipex/UUNET/iAfrica. (Feels like yesterday.)
This is my 1st ISP change in +-8years? (Ok, excluding the take-over of ICON, Worldonline, Tiscali - which was normally an improvement until MWEB.)

Today I have eventually made the leap to ADSL.

The Telkom techies were really great!

firstly hope u enjoying the high speed. secondly the techies are in no way great, as anybody can connect a filter between the phone and the line and then call the exchange asking them to divert ur line thru the adsl link. instead think of it this way - we were all extorted out of a R404 connection fee. otherwise, no complaints ;)

let us give credit where due? If telkom techies helped then hats off to them, if you received bad service then sorry for you.

Mux, welcome to ADSL, you will never go back.

i agree they are friendly and helpful at times. but then again for R404 per connection i would gladly put on a smile and be friendly too :D

and if u got paid by telkom to do such an easy installation (basically no work at all), wouldnt u be smiling too ;)

Highflyer_GP, I think you miss the point. I lot of people get paid to work, very few will do it with a smile. The guys were going to be a bit late....so how many people have you met that will actually take the time to phone, apologise and find out if it is ok?
We all feel a bit hot under the collar to deal with the Telkom tactis and in general the treatment, but we have to give acknowledgement when we do get treatment thats better than average.

Telkom is a business and not a charity, so no matter what you can still provide serviuce with a smile. and Mux makes a point.

I have been told numerous times that the R404 for the installation, the techie send out get nottin of that, except his monthly pay cheque.

Techies love coming out on weekends and after hours, they get paid R150 a hour then apparently and have 3hrs maximum after which they dont get paid a cent, so if someone come out afterhours, make sure its fixed in 3hrs otherwise the guy wont work hard nemore and leave ;)

From august 1st you pay R202 for installation or something. Some promotion. I made ordered it a week ago though - wanna avoid the rush cause boy is it coming. Almmost every second person I hear in the Telkom store in Rosebank is ordering ADSL or at lesat enquiring about it. We just ended ten years of dialup (or however long internet's been available in SA :P) :D:D:D

Seems as if us dialup users are dying out, even with overpriced broadband.

that's the demand of the net users.
users want to use internet anytime without any limit.
but we are being ripped off atm.

Experience so far

Just a short update:
My fears of switching ISP’s were all just plain stupid&dumb!

So far WebAfrica has been FANTASTIC! Very responsive (day or night) and it's probably the 1st accounts department that I dealt with that answers queries (well, call them questions as I had no problems) anytime. The experience in SERVICE is excellent.

I have to thank 2 other parties in the switch-over:
BillionSA.com - guys thanks a (m)billion for sending that BiPAC 7402VGO - a GREAT product! WOW! I am going to have a lot of fun.
Jump.co.za - if it weren't for your quick sourcing from BillionSA I would not have received the Router before the SAA strike - again - excellent service!
(b.t.w. Billion&Jump, if you haven't figured out who this nick belongs by now...I have managed to figure out how to solve the Windows 2003 sbs issue I had. I was a rule in ISA for the old ISDN dialup that caused the problem - not the Billion Router - managed to eliminate it by 6pm same day.) I am probably the 1st user with the new 7402VGO.
