Okay, so on News24 today, a 14 year old Texan dies on Table Mountain, yes, sad.
And last night a 16 year old American girl gets lost in Cavendish Mall and is found at a Church this morning I think.

WTF ARE THESE AMERICANS TRYING TO DO!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean... come on! :(

Keep your stupidity in your own country!
 
According to News24, they went hiking (family) and the 14 year old slipped and fell and died.

Thing is, it's AWFUL WEATHER to go hiking in... And it's not like the weather suddenly changed - it's been crud (in CPT) since yesterday already.

Sorry for your loss parents, but really, just plain stupid!

Of cause it gets news coverage and then WE look bad.

CAPE TOWN, South Africa — A Texan teen fell to his death while hiking down Table Mountain, one of Cape Town's main tourist attractions, South African police said Sunday.

Police spokesman Billy Jones said the 14-year-old, who was not identified, and his parents and a sibling had on Saturday taken the cable car to the top of the 3,563-foot (1,086-meter) landmark. They then walked down along a known route.

Along the way, the teen fell about 30 feet (10 meters), and died on the mountain.

"We have been in touch with the family throughout," U.S. Consulate spokesman Nathan Holt said. "We provided assistance. We extend our deepest condolences to the family. We thank South African authorities for all their assistance."

Two officials, who both requested anonymity, said the family is from Houston.

16 year old girl? What 16 year old that YOU know does not have a cellphone? You're in another country, you mean you don't think of this?

Cape Town is having horrible weather... you go hiking in this weather?

Not having a cellphone on her doesn't make her stupid ;) Getting lost in a mall maybe, but if a human panics they do strange things. Still doesn't prove stupid to me :D

The thing here is, they are making drama for themselves and people immediately think bad of our country.

I found out about the story because an american friend messaged me via facebook and his words were: "3 days in and already 1 american has died in your country"

Of cause I don't think he read the story properly but... in general... that's how it is... assumption.
 
The irony here is that this thread might do more harm for the image of South Africa :rolleyes:

A large number of US cellphones run on a competing technology to GSM which means they wont work here.
 
I've just be told that the story is on a local web site, "Teen killed in South Africa"

NOOOOOOOOOOOO mention in title of "while hiking" of cause :rolleyes:
