live in Craighall, Sandton. installed adsl 500k in january. was all fine. got them to bump it up to
3meg ( they told me im too far from exchange for higher) and since then ive had endless grief.

net is rock solid from 8am until 5:30 pm and then as i arrive home it is on and off the entire night,
on for 2 minutes, off for 6minutes. been like this for months.

they test the line its fine, they wouldnt even give us a darn reference number. i eventually got one last week after world cup had settled. ive managed to get them to drop the speed to 1meg. but still its on and off during the nights. almost as if im sharing a flippen line with some accountant who gets home promptly at 5:30pm every day.

so now the line has died altogether, so im trying to get telkom to come fix it. they wont . simple as that. no sorry sir, you shouldnt have adsl, you are too far from the exchange. apparently im 7km from exchange. is that too far? other people in my complex have wonderful adsl.

yesterday i phone and say come fix, they say no, because you are on a farm you cannot have adsl (which im paying for for 6 months already), so i say oh is craighall in sandton a farm???? geez

now im trying to get them to switch my line to a 500k and THEN they will send someone out. got shunted around today eventually they told me they will call me back, they never did.

geez its all just so stupid

sorry just had to vent

ftw.. i'VE BEEN WAITING FOR months NOW TO HAVA LINE INSTALLED. After reading this.. I dont want it anymOre..

Ask to speak to the call center manager then explain to him/her your situation. If you can get a higher up to keep tabs on the situation the quicker it is done and it will be done properly.

P.S they have a habit of saying the manager is not there or is busy, don't accept that insist on speaking to the manager.

Welcome to the joy that is dealing with Telkom! Best I did was to rant on 0800 375 375 'til the guy gave me an ops manager's number for my area. I thought I was in business only to discover that this number rings and rings and then eventually goes engaged. Fan-****in'-tastic.

found out today that my line is just 2Mb...called Mweb, and they will have it changed to 4Mb. Reading this thread makes me worried now, as I am 5km from the exchange (so I was told). At least I don't have to deal directly with Telkom, i guess.
