Before I get lambasted for the topic, I don't want internet.

But is it possible to port an existing telkom no to Neotel? Trying to sort the old lady out with a better deal than teleskum

Pity one cannot keer on using your existing instruments when porting to Neotel. Would prefer prepaid as well.

Question: What better deal are you going to get that the Prepaid Telkom offer? iirc you have to pay for the neotel wireless equipment? Can someone who is (or was) with neotel help here?

Why not get her one of the cellphone deals - R100/m, etc,?

I would like to hear from someone who has ported their number to Neotel as well.

It would be nice to have the option of internet if needed at 8c a mb

We've already proted several users, so porting for voice is available and open.
If you need, call the callc entre on 0800 333 636 and the GNP team will assist you through to closing.

I need to connect an analogue device to neotel - where can I find such a device

You need to get a SS10-C device which is a fixed cellular router. This costs about R1900. It connects to the Neotel network and has a RJ-11 socket to which you can attach a plain analogue telephone instrument, or a fax machine, or any device that needs an analogue line, like Telkom provides. Additionally, you can program this SS10C via any Windows PC to bar calls, or certain calls, limit the time spent on calls, bar incoming calls and many other useful functions. Limiting call times is ideal for an office where staff sometimes talk for hours to their friends mobile phones, using your phone account.

There is only one snag - very few people at Neotel know of the device (which is manufactured in Pretoria) and even less people at N know how to connect the device to their network. Each SS10 has an "ESN" number which N allocate a phone number to. However, in 3 weeks of phoning many many people at N, only one had actually heard of it and said that an outside telecoms co would have to do it as they didn't know how to implement it.

Hello Forumites, I need to convert 3 Telkom numbers to Neotel as I am moving premises. Once the 3 numbers are ported to Neotel, I need to connect an analogue device to each of the lines. 2 analogue phones and an analogue fax machine plugged in via a normal RJ 11 plug.

Any help or suggestion or mention of which company I can obtain such an analogue to neotel convertor from, would be much appreciated.

My email is [email protected]

Kind regards

I think what you want is beyond neotels capability?

Hugo......is what he wants possible? I would also love to add a fax to my set-up

And what about an alarm system? Is that possible yet?

Hi.

The biggest problem here is your fax facility.
Although you're plugging your analogue in, because our technology (CDMA) is wirless, you're fax product is going to suffer severely. To put it brief, 7 of out 10 faxes would be received, and of those 7, 5 out of 10 pages would be received. So for the better part i doubt its an option you want to look at currently. Our customers requiring fax facilites, we best recommend fax2email, and several hosts in SA offer such a service. Even googling (local search) will show many, eg rightfax.....

What is the bandwidth limitation of the CDMA network? Does the line have the same frequency response as a copper cable? Are there limitations for transmitting analogue data via CDMA?

Yes - I have ported 3 numbers from Telkom numbers took me 9 weeks, 1 faulty CDMA module, lost customers, lost business and headaches all along the way. Also once they are ported they cannot offer you a simple hunting facility on these lines(for at least 10 weeks according to their National Sales Manager).
