Vodacom awesome "broadband" not good enough for Splinter Cell Conviction

Epic Fail. The new Splinter Cell needs you to have a permanent connection to their servers. Last night I could not play. This afternoon I could. Tonight I can't. Fail for Vodacom and fail for Ubisoft. They have both taken R400 from me and are laughing all the way to the bank.

The irony is that there are probably tens of thousands of people who have pirated the game and are playing right now. Fail.

:-) Lol. They say "A permanent internet connection is required to play the game." I should have known it would not work with Vodacom ;)

I was more than willing to be online all the time when playing. I knew about the DRM. I thought they would trickle data to their server and seeing as though I have HSDPA I thought Vodacom would be able to handle that. Lol. So wrong! So very wrong!

It's working fine for me? Connected saturday afternoon and only disconnected last night 23:30, did 700mb in that time.
 
There is no reason why you cant use a crack on a legal copy.
 
This is an Ubisoft fail, not a Vodacom fail.

Fortunately we live in South Africa, in the US it is illegal to attempt or even discuss (as you just did) bypassing a 'technological measure' for protecting copyright.
A good reason for not using a crack on a legal copy is that this sends the wrong message to Ubisoft, it means you accept their ridiculous copyright protection scheme that inconveniences you, their paying customer.

Pkid, you should return the game to the store as defective. I hope you paid by credit card, otherwise you may have to fight with the store for a refund.

I am still connected but I think that the big issue with the DRM servers is latency. They don't seem to be forgiving on that at all. It looks like you get 1 - 2 seconds before they display the warning that they can't connect to their servers. I can play for an hour in the afternoons and it will barely use 5 megs of bandwidth so they aren't sending a lot of data back and forth.

I have been waiting for my ADSL. Once I get that I will give it another go because in my experience the latency is often better with ADSL.
