Telkom losing the ADSL / broadband war?

Drop the forced-down-our-throats analog voice line rental already and Telkom will see huge growth. It's still cheaper to go HSPA if you only want about 1 GB of data per month. And with carry-over you can buy 2 GB every 2 months and only pay just under R200 odd per month for your internet connection.

With Telkom you pay R280 odd per month and then not a single byte has traversed your line yet, and that at snail's speed.

Pretty obvious I would have thought. Drop prices and give a better service. I don't want my landline but have to keep to have ASDL. Look at the prices in the civilised world. Some ASDL is actually FREE.
My ASDL in the UK is 10 times faster.NO cap and and 1 tenth the price per month it is here in the 3rd World. Stop financing the FAT CATS of Telkom
 
But if they drop the DSLAM rental they halve their ADSL profit without a guarantee of doubling their subscribers and the shareholders will slaughter them.

Well the day has come lets wait for 16:00 when CEO is in sandton for a metting if nothing happens i know mweb is the place to be ....
 
I hope it drops even further so that they can maybe catch a wakeup. What a bunch of ****ers.

I would love to see another column in that table that shows the number of subscribers who cancelled their broadband/data package with Helkom....
 
Well I am one..6 weeks ago and moved to Mweb. Perfect and much cheaper(even more if it wasn't for the Telkom anologue voice line I never use)

R250 for sattelite TV that does not properly cover local sport.
R280 + R90 for ADSL that you cannot really do online gaming with because of disgusting latency.

Easy choice, really.
 
Another way to look at it is that they showed a 18.1% year on year growth on ADSL connections and a 21.1% increase on annuity based subscriptions on calling plans (Closer types) and a 25.4% on the DoBroadband bundles.

The chickens come home to roost... even if they are anorexic scrawny nandos chickens.

Telkom has made its own bed... Yes, we can blame the government and ICASA... but Telkom were quite willing all along to play the monopoly game.

Sometimes the dice don't fall the way you want them to though.... now they are up poop creek without a paddle.

No other country in the world (that I know of) charges a double rental for ADSL... there is no reason for Telkom to have to charge that... except that they have come to rely on that income and cannot offer the service now without it. Tough cookies Telkom. Adapt or die. Move aside, unbundle the local loop and let some other innovative company show you how it is done.
 
With advertising like "Cap it" would you expect anything else?

Telkom, like any other company where greed is their bottom line, will continue to suffer unless they review their prices. We heard talk about the announcement today of Telkom's planned changes for ADSL speed. What happened? Where is the news brief? What are they going to do to improve copper wire ADSL speeds for low-end users? They're not even in the bandwidth "war" because their prices are still way overpriced at R64.76/GB. It's ridiculous. Name me one other company apart from Pick 'n Pay that rakes in more than R15-million an hour.

We all know what needs to happen , but telkom wont do it , they are against any change . Short term gain , long term loss . The rest of SA is moving towards 3g/hsdpa ect ect , have a look at vodacom and mtn , they are growing , adsl can never match them for growth , and we know it is about LLU , adsl line rental ect ect . We have been down this road ad neaseum , yet nothing has changed .

If they want growth , drop the line rental or in fact just make it less for a start ! Once they has lost the "last mile" they are toast! They still cant see it ! At the start we had 3 gig and then we where capped , then we had our local bandwidth taken away as well ! Then we where able to buy local bandwidth yet we had to get software to split it between local and international , so far every bright idea from telkom has been something to negetaviley impact the life of the consumers !

However , now we have uncapped adsl , the mobile market is growing there are more cables leaving SA that telkom dont control , all these things add up and should have been a huge red flag to telkom that they need to change how they do buisness , yet they still refuse to! The day will come when we will have the chance to get adsl without paying Telkom a cent , it will be a great day , the writing is on the wall for them it has been for some time now . Yet while they can milk us they will , short term gain , long term loss , once we have all moved on and they can no longer get anything from us then they will have to crawl through broken glass to get my money.

They will never change , no matter what , lets just make peace with it and move on , we have mweb uncapped and are forced to pay telkom , it is like having a brand new porsche but being forced to drive on SA roads , we just suck it down people .....

And this line of thinking is EXACTLY the root of problem!!!!

Nevermind that the benchmark is 30 or 40%... as long as there is growth, then surely everything is OK? <sarcasm>
