From today is seems local Skype rates (ie Skype calls terminating in SA) are now 22% lower!

R0.505 per minute now.

It is actually 0.055 €/min, which is 0.44 R/min.

It is more than 50% cheaper than Telkom for long distance calls in peak time.

AFAIK you only pay VAT if you living in europe

ok i have a question - is it possible to buy skypeout using a debit card? i cancelled my credit card - i think its a curse.

Yes. Dunno about Visa-Elctron style debit card though...

Mine is a debit card but it's the real thing (reads: you can't tell that it's a debit card through inspection) and it work 100%

I registered with Paypal and bought Skype out credits in 10 min...easy as pie witha bog standard SA credit card.(Mastercard) :D

..i didn't even use paypal..i just bought directly with my Visa. Now if only we can get SkypeIN in SA....

NO you dont, Use HSBC business card, and you dont pay no vat anywhere in the world. :D

It probably depends on the address attached to the card. If its in the EU
you'll pay VAT. HSBC operates in Europe too.

Cheaper than free? And no risk of pesky Supernode traffic?
Betamax is the way to go - then again we all know this :D
I have setup a gateway for family members to dial into my house, and call onward from there via betamax - we have never reached our 300min/week free quota.
