2010 WC-Year of the underdogs and the shocks

So far we have seen shock results, underdogs winning and Giants bowing out.

Group A- Before the start of the WC France were tipped to be first! now look where they are.. LAST! they lost 2 games and drew one they failed. the underdogs in SA beat them!

Group B- ok no shcokers there... Argentina pwnd em all

Group C- England were also tipped to top this group and to win handsomely against Slovenia and Algeria. They drew against Algeria and they stumbled passed Slovenia in a lackluster 1-0 win. They finish second in their group. USA top that group

Group D- Germany were favorites to top this group and they did even with the loss against Serbia.. well that group has 4 strong teams.. no complaints there

Group E- The Dutch ruled this group no worries except for Cameroon losing all their games (game against the dutch not taken into acc)

Group F- the interesting one. the World Champions of 2006 LAST of this group. they didnt win a single game! and Slovakia a team everyone thought would fail beat them and took their place in the last 16

Group G- Brazil pwnd, Portugal pwnd

Group E- Spain lost against the swiss major surprise!

so as you see and have seen there have been major upsets.
Is it cos of the vuvuzela's? something in the air? Or are the underdogs no more underdogs are they now almost as good as the best! USA surprised everyone in the confeds by making it to the Finals! Is it now no more underdogs vs Giants? is it now The best vs the Potentially best?
 
More like some of the teams are just rubbish

The french had major issues coming into the world cup, should never have kept the coach for the world cup
Italy have no super stars and have an aging squad, not surprised they out
Spain are missing messi :D

Add into the mix european teams never do well outside Europe. All south american final on the cards :D.
 
Naaa dude, argentina, brazil, uruguay, paraguay,chile will make up the final :D.

I will be amazed to see a european team in the final.

I'm very inclined to this. Everyone watch out!
Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile are NOT playing games!
 
The South American teams have adapted brilliantly to South Africa (I think the European teams just haven't looked "at home" if you know what I mean.) but Germany are so clinical and professional that they will just getnthe job done.
 
I don't think they are clinical, lost to a crap serbian team, if ghana could shoot they could have won the game.

Germany looks horrid to me. This is of course the germans and they always do well but they got so many young players and that defense looks like it can be torn apart at ease and they will find a team who can score and score plenty :D.
 
I think it's the fact that some of the smaller nations have nurtured talent properly and the "unusual" nations (asian ones) have grown in leaps and bounds over the last ten years.
 
When did you guys started watching football and Word Cups??? There is always been "surpises" at almost every World Cup from smaller countries.

Uruguay vs Korea Republic
United States vs Ghana
Germany vs England
Argentina vs Mexico
Netherlands vs Slovakia
Paraguay vs Japan

To be decided on Friday:
Winner G (Brazil) vs Second H (Chile/Spain/Switzerland)
Winner H (Chile/Spain/Switzerland) vs Second G (Portugal/Ivory Coast)

Bulgaria - Germany at the US WC is the one that stands out the most for me...

Cameroon in 1990 also.
 
This WC looks like it's one where the pace and team work will outplay the teams with technical superiority... Spain lost to Switzerland, Cameroon and denmark lost to Japan. Greece lost to South Korea, USA beat Algeria and should have beaten slovenia... Whilst teams like France, Italy, crashed out without winning any games...

If there's anyone that didn't look at home it's the African teams, 1/5 teams qualified so far.
The Asian teams have been inspiring, Japan and South Korea.

Unlike African teams. Almost none of those Asian team players play in the big leagues in Europe
