Telkom launches PC bundled Internet package

What did we learn from Voda today ?

Oh look - you have to use teklom as your ISP, well - you've signed up with them as your ISP, nothing stops you from having another ISP and teklom.

Oh yippppeeeee - The bronze one is Dialup - lol - and you have to pay for it.

Telkom Pc Internet Bundle

Could anyone believe this :

“With this low-cost PC bundle, Telkom is stepping up its social investment strategy to enable people to communicate by introducing to the market a bundle to grow the Internet industry,” stated Rikus Matthyser, Telkom’s Executive for Business Integration Service.

TelkomInternet Gold PC Bundle with HomeDSL384kb R790.96 x 36 = R28 500.00

Over 3 years the PC would be R7500.00
That leaves R21 000.00 / 36 months = R 583.33 per month for HomeDSL

Who are they trying to fool ? and they LOCK you in for THREE YEARS !!

ICASA please tell them that they don't have a monopoly on PC equipment.

Buyers Beware !!

Ag no man... maybe they're starting to get desperate for money?

Should the compoota develop a problem, then you'll wait 6 months for it to be fixed, and then it still will be problematic...

No thanks, I'll pass, I'm not interested in this offer.

And... what's the specs of the computer? Prolly an i386SX, 4Mb RAM, Windoze95? :p They don't give the specs of this compoota on Telkom's website either... which is very, very suspicious. Maybe it's older equipment that needs to be moved out to make way for newer equipment... ;)

But, like I said, who's responsible for tribbleshooting on this computer? Telkom? Mecer? Will you be passed back and forth between these two companies?

Naaa... it's caveat emptor, buyer beware!

whats the bet the pc will be celeron 2.6Ghz with 40gB hdd with 256 ram and onboard vga, branded telkom ofcourse

Maybe telkom should really think about making toilet paper. bcos their service is like Cr#P

they're obviously targeting and exploiting the uninformed. i.e. 1st time pc owners and the like. very, very sad for whoever falls into this trap. yeah, i also think its old office equipment that they're trying to get rid of, all they'll do is wrap it in a new casing

You will also only be able to read or write(combined) a total of 3gbyte of data per month after which your pc will show a blue screen of death for the rest of the month. The PC will automatically reboot every night to ensure that you have to enter a logon password daily to protect yourself. The USB port will receive such a low priority as to render itself unusable to allow maximum throughput for the stiffy drive, which is what most users use on their computer!

Please no. After 3Kg per month you would only be allowed to Pee...

i just saw a disgusting 2 page advert in todays sunday times on page 24/25 advertising this. the sad part is that so many people will get sucked into this, and should the price of internet access decrease, everyone taking out one of these contracts will be bound to pay current prices. maybe telkom saw hefty price decreases and cap increases coming (as mentioned in the icasa findings), and decided to exploit people at current prices while they still can?
also should the cap be increased, everyone taking one of these contracts will be bound by a 2GB or 3GB cap.

ROFLMAO :D .... Telkom don't know what they are doing ....

“The package will also include complete installation, as we don't see price as the only inhibitor against Internet uptake,” says Matthyser. “A big factor is that people can't actually set up the computers for Internet use, so this will include all that,”

I mean If somehow they were persuaded to abide by SLA, they would really sh%t themselves ..given the horriffying ADSL install time they currently have, and now they plan to install/setup these "PCs" ? ...what a joke ... and where on earth are they to get enough people to roll-out these machines...and who on earth is goig to support them ( I honestly doubt Microsoft will ... )...surely they'll need to have some sort of connection with Microsoft support ... for instance if somehow remotely, Microsft manage to establish that the problem is not with the OS and is probably the modem ... does a client now log another call with Telkom if its's a modem issue ..oh and what if it's an internal hardware issue does it now become Mecer's problem? ... I mean R 790.96 X 36 = R 28 474.56 surely there'll be some sort of support for these pc's right? and that's more extra money is going to come from .... well methinks .. they'll start to charge these poor souls for call-out support (on-site)......

I ca'nt help but get a sense of dejavu ... something like the thousands of telephone lines they installed and ended up disconecting, because people can't afford ... if these people get fed-up waiting in vain for support surely they won't want to pay either?

All the Tower Bundles include a PC, software, virus protection, home line, Internet access and surfing minutes,
.... this part is funny ...surfing minutes? ...what the hell is that? ...

I dont get it. The cell phone network operators are not allowed to give out free phones with their contracts, but Telkom can give free PC`s with their contracts?

That doesnt make sense to me.
