Free Skype minutes promotion

I was on Skype for over a year and none of my friends, colleagues and comrades used Skype. Hopefully this promotion will encourage most South Africans with ADSL lines to join join and use Skype. Imagine free video calls!

At least free phone calls; video still requires better speed and more bandwidth.
 
I have a capped account--what use is unlimited skype when my data bundle is limited! Typical South Africa!

But, good that these free-bees are now appearing for other countries outside the first-world!
 
I would love to start using Skype for business purposes if it worked out cheaper but at over R2 per minute for calls to cellphones it does not make it any cheaper than some of the lower cell phone contracts.... and the inconvenience (not having my cellphone in my pocket with speed dial and address book readily available - the latter added as I have Skype on my Nokia) just does not make it worthwhile.

I read some calculations on skype's website that claimed 1gb is enough for 40hours skyping so you don't really need unlimited access. For skyping alone it would probably be cheaper not to get an unlimited account.

I spoke to Australia for about 40 minutes and it used about 3Mb on this free promotion.Quality of call excellent!!

Get an uncapped account - try Mweb. Use GConnect R50.

As long as you give them your Credit Card details !! :

I'm also capped, but even I use skype. Voice calls don't use up that much & I end up talking until there is nothing else to say.
If it's a video call I usually do 5-10 odd minutes with the video before I switch it off to voice call

I've been using Skype regularly since 2005. They have had my credit card details since then. Never had a problem.
But it is advisable to pay attention to all the pages in the sign up process.
Skype often includes a tick box that sets up "auto-recharge" and it is on by default.
(When you run out of minutes they automatically re-charge your account)
If you leave the box ticked it will take you to another page to set up the amount of the auto-recharge.
But other than that, I have never had a problem with them.
Skype is a well known and reputable company.

If you are gonna be so worried about everything on the internet, then can I suggest that you get off the internet. :)

I've been using Skype to call landlines in Europe, Australia and NZ for years now. I've been using the auto-recharge facility on my credit card without any problems whatsoever.
 
Sigh... you have to give them credit card details :(
Why can't they just do the promotion with out all these hassles?
