Termination Rates: What the providers really feel

ICASA can force termination rates of 1c per hour but it will mean nothing if the telco's don't pass that on to the consumer.

if they forced to pay that small rate guess what they will do? so sad but the rate p/m for the call will go way up......

I imagine the providers feel glee and satisfaction knowing that they managed to squeeze the consumers for all that extra cash for all those years... and now they probably feel a sense of panic that their income might be negatively influenced and they may not be able to pay off that third or fourth house they own.

I've posted it on this forum before; when to original "re-adjustment" of termination rates was implemented a few months ago, not a single provider gave any profit warnings (reduction) having all complained bitterly that it was going to hurt them.

The same will apply now. Unless it is stated categorically by ICASA (unlikely) what the termination rates will be and that this benefit MUST be passed onto the consumer, we shall keep on getting screwed.

Don't hold your breath.

Imminent???

I feel nothing for the providers, it's their turn to get the short end of the stick.

+1

I am tired of subsidizing SA sport by paying excessive mobile rates and bank charges. These two groups are the main sponsors of Rugby (ABSA curry cup, Vodacom Bulls), Cricket (Standard bank cricket), Golf (Nedbank), etc. Rather than charging us excessive rates (and hence making enough profit to sponsor these sports), make the sports subsidy an explicit option on your bill so that you can opt-out! The rugby, cricket and golf fans would be up in arms if they had to subsidize my choice of sport (e.g., gymnastics) at the same funding levels.

Collusion will prevail.....

What is R600m on VC billions of profit!!

If interconnect rates drop and networks are not profitable, then let market forces prevail and hike your overall call costs. The most efficient provider will get all the business if he can keep overall costs down!!!

Simple....

True that none of the mobile operators passed it on, but Telkom did pass on the full saving.
