What a great way to start Photography

Hi all :D I got myself a Nikon D3000 this weekend :) Very excited to start photography!

Im at the most basic, beginner level at the moment, and I just thought I should thank those who set up and contributed to this Photography forum. From what I've gathered thus far just browsing the forum, I can probably learn most of what I need to.

So just a big thanks to all :D

(Anyone got a D3000? Experiences?)
 
The D3000 is a great entry-level DSLR. You'll certainly learn a whole lot if you hang around here and on sites like Flickr, which have dedicated groups for the D3000. Happy snapping!
 
Bryan Peterson's books are really good for beginners. Get yourself a copy of Understanding Exposure or Understanding Photography Field Guide. If you can't get a copy from a bookstore, Take2's More UK/US service can import it for you - and you don't have to pay the shipping from abroad.

Enjoy your camera and LEARN the basics. Having a DSLR and keeping it in Auto mode doesn't really serve a purpose :)
 
I played with the D3000's "Guide Mode" for a week as I was learning online what the terms meant and seeing them in practice. Then I started trying sequential shots with some one thing changed at a time (anything from Aperture to WB), which shows the effects clearly. So the Guide helped tremendously with learning the essentials, but you shouldn't bother with it ever again
