Is this the best price I'll get a 50D - Body only - for?

Wow R8k. Nice. Thanks!

Question: What's the major difference between teh 550D and the 50D? And is it better to rather go for the 50D than the 550D?

There was a thread on this last week... Think it will answer your question. Basically, if you want video and resolution, go for the 550D. If you want a quality professional body get the 50D.

The 50D is better but not professional quality. If you want that you'll need to pony up for a 1D.

BTW I heard one photographer describe the 1D as the camera you can beat a man to death with and then take his photo.

Yea - the other thread helps ;)

I read close to a gazillion reviews on the two and one thing that was pointed out was quick access to functions and ergonomics. I honestly thought it wasn't a real concern - till a friend let me try his Nikon D300 and I realised I loved quick access and the alloy body!

The 50D has more accurate focusing points too - BUT I did see a site that rated overall IQ lower (I think). I'll try pull up that link.

Here www.dxomark.com

And check here http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/en...0/(brand)/Canon/(brand2)/Canon/(brand3)/Canon

I have no idea what all those numbers mean, but the 550D is alot closer to the 7D. Granted, there are benefits of the 50D over the 550D, but I'm not sure IQ is one of them.

Here's something else I picked up : http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos50d/page31.asp

■High ISO performance worse than 40D
■Live view not as accurate as on 40D (framing very slightly off-center, in contrast detect AF mode not possible to magnify right out to the extreme corners)
■Reduced dynamic range in the shadow areas compared to EOS 40D
