Toshiba Store Art 1Tb HDD not being recognised by Win7

Hi all!!

So I purchased an external finaly, but unfortunatly Win7 does not pick it up in device manager at all. The USB ports are functional, all other devices plugged into each one works, so I have swopped it around into each and still nothing. My DVD player doesnt recognise it either but Win XP does. Works fine there so I dont think its a problem with the drive itself. Cant find any drivers ( which I dont think it needs anyway) even on their website. I see many people on the web have this problem, but all the answers are to search the device manager.

Any help would be appreciated guys.
 
I usually don't use new M$ stuff until they release service packs or fixes.
It could be something small though. Sorry can't assist.
 
That drive probably has some custom software. Plug it back into XP, give it a good format and see what gives.
 
Had the exact same issue with the 1.5Tb version :(. I ended up converting it to an internal drive:wtf: since reverting to XP wasn't an option

Does it show in Disk Management?

[In XP] Start > right click My Computer > Manage > Storage > Disk Management .
 
Had the same problem with a VERY old (OLPC) PC which I was using for an HTPC, running WinXP. Turned out, that the system just needed a few minutes to eventually agree with the drive. Conversely my newer (although still old) machine that runs win7 doesn't like my HTC android phone and a few other things, but really doesn't mind having a few Toshiba external drives (a few silver uprights and a few black shiny plastic ones >=1tb) plugged into almost every USB available.
 
Sorry......misread.....doesn't show up at all anywhere. Including disk management. And neither on my normal dvd player hooked up to the tv. Whereas all other externals it picks up. Its odd as hell. The drive spins lights on everyone is home but no window to peer at them through. Getting frustrated as heck. Deleted the ports reinstalled them...nothing. Updated drivers for the ports.......nothing.
 
unplug all other usb devices. Maybe your board iisnt supplying enough juice.
 
You did the partition thing from Device Manager? There is a wizard that you run.

Damn - one of those things that you know how to do but can't explain precisely and it doesn't help to look at this machine. Still have XP here and W7 at home. Not at home :)
 
Just a thought... did you install the chipset drivers (get them fresh from downloadcenter.intel.com) ?
 
the drivers that come with a mobo are usually quite dated -- mobo manufacturer gets disks made, discs are warehoused until bundled with board, board sits on the ocean for a few weeks, sits in the local ditributors warehouse for a while, goes to the dealer and finally to you.

If you have an Intel chipset based mobo , the driver package should be around ~ v9.1.1.1025.
