As much as I sympathize with Cell C, and can understand that they were forced to follow suite, it’s a bad excuse, albeit not necessarily untrue.
As was stated above, the whole idea of competition is to force the existing suppliers to tighten their belt buckles, which would result in better packages/pricing and hopefully improved service levels for the end user.
If this is the tune that they are going to sing, then we need to point the finger at the selection process of these providers/consortiums, the people that made the decision and why it went that way. As they have clearly not done there job properly.
If Cell C doesn’t have enough of its own muscle (financial or other) to come into the market and be competitive, forcing the other 2 players hands and not just following suite, why were they granted the license in the first place?
Icasa, this is a question then that should be answered as it would seem as if the 3rd license was just dished out to make a few people rich, the public have not benefited in real terms.
