EASSy will cut international bandwidth prices further

It is great..

but International isn't really the issue anymore :(.. We need competition on the local loop
 
No offense but whats the point of increased international if the providers here don't actually let us access it.
 
Go back to the Seacom articles. I think they just copy pasted the heading and changed the cable name :-/.
 
Two reason's why I'm not so hyped up about this

1) Same things were said about Seacom slashing prices*
2) Telkom nuff said**

*Seacom did bring down prices but only after a few months.

Now I'm not saying this bad at all! I'm just saying I will wait and see first :p

And you don't think Seacom was a game changer in SA. Have you looked at the ADSL account prices recently. Look back 1 year and compare.
 
I think somebody copy pasted an old Seacom article and just replaced "seacom" with "eassy" :sick:

But hey, if it lives up to the hype then maybe we can all have R100pm uncapped internetz right? (that does not factor in the R125 line rental and R460 line rental again, aka the telkom tax) :sick:
 
MTN landing stations are also well on their way, the one in Nigeria got approved (WACS Optic)
 
Yay! EAssy will bring down bandwidth cost... Wait, where have I heard this before? Oh yes! SEACOM 2 years ago and it finally materialized a year after SEACOM went live.

Of course it takes a few months to drop the prices. A lot of testing needs to be done by the ISPs. Seacom brought some huge changes to the market, dropping prices by more than 50%. Eassy will bring uncapped prices down (or help them maintain prices if speed increases happen across the board).
 
i think people forget that mweb took a "leap of faith" in offering an "unsustainable" solution available on the premise that eassy etc would bring down prices.
so i'm not sure how much this will change things for the average consumer in future though (price-wise)
what it may do is highlight the obstructive role that telkom has played in llu to date, when people don't see their overall connectivity and telephony prices coming down much.

SEACOM went live in the middle of July 2009. I'm not to sure what you mean by 2 years ago. It hasn't even been a year. Afrihost launched September 2009 with R29 per gig pricing. That's less than 3 months before a 50% saving was given to consumers.

I hate all this incorrect negative bull**** that everyone seems to think they know a lot about...
 
If you guys are so negative about it they can roll this cable up to my house. I'll find a use for it :)
