very high latency on wow with adsl,help

i have been playing wow with my 56k modem with a latency of between 700-800.Even with 40 man raids there wasnt very bad lagg.

I have just got adsl with telkom isp 192 package.My latency on adsl is between 3000-7000.I know that gaming is a low priorety on broadband but i thought that the lantency would never be that high.I am using a speedstream 4060 modem that i got from overseas and not the telkom modem,could this have something too do with it??.I am not very technecial with regards too port shaping and those type of things.

i would appreciate any help in this regard as too what i can do too improve my latency,i mainly will be using the adsl for gaming.

speak to Clipse on Nukecap details... its a VPN which allows ADSL shaped users to get better latency within WoW... i use ISDN but after the 1.6 patch the latency has been bad for me too...

I still recon Telkom artificialy crushes these ports so it can sell its unshapped acounts.
 
its been happening since the 28th when i spose they implimented pretty much for the whole august 1st thing.....
AND its not only wow
 
I do not think its Telkom, I strongly believe its the high cap accounts that musta been sold like sweets :)

To all worried users, expect ping to go back to normal once these 30gig accounts get removed around October/November. This is pure speculation, but im rather certain this must be the reason.

I guess, the one good thing is making the other good thing a bad thing.

Im just worried, Telkom use this as an excuse, to use as proof that higher cap accounts drain the network and thats why they dont offer high caps.
 
I have noticed that the pings on shaped ADSL accounts for WoW have increased dramatically during the last 3 days and first three days of every month, possibly due to people trying to reach their bandwidth limits for the month. I don't understand, though, why the latency is still crap in the beginning of the new month.

I used to play on a 56k modem, and the latency was fine until large opposing faction battles took place with 25 or more people involved. The large amount of players caused the bandwidth requirementsto climb too high, and my avg. latency of 600-800ms to climbed to 15000-25000ms. So I got myself an unshaped ADSL account at SAOL (www.saol.com) (was 3gb@R399 per month, but it has now changed to 4gb@R499 per month). My latency only rarely goes above 600ms now, and typically stays around 350-600ms, any time of the month, come rain or shine. For me personally, it is absolutely worth it, seeing as I am totally addicted to WoW and can't stop playing it.

Clipse you yourself have said many times that telkom doesn't use half of the bandwidth available? They must be doing something to screw us over as usual its jsut funny it happened at about the same time we where supposed to get the 1Mbs service (which I haven't heard anything off), and as ICASA released their findings?

Thats due to the fact that every Tom D1ck and Harry who who couldn't download all his porn at the end of the month because he capped himself downloading the Paris Hilton vid on his P2P program at the beginning of last month is now trying catch up too the Download totals all his friends had so he doesn't look like the square geek on the block and can be on top again selling the burnt copies of the DVD movies he downloads to his 12 year old school fiends!
 
Kalvaer - Correct, I dont believe and I think many with me would agree, Telkom dont use it all on the adsl pool.. Alot of it is dedicated to their diginet circuits and the more "PRIME" services. They can definitely add more to their adsl network but oh well thats not the discussion here.

The persistent latency issues, would be becuase of alot more international usage on the same "small" pipe that had not increase in bandwidth but had a hell of alot more bandwidth sales with regards to the higher capped accounts being one reason.

Think about it, potentially 30gig accounts can do 10x more harm on a scale if everyone moved over to it from their puni 3gig accounts. Silly comparison, but it does make sense on some level :)
 
I dunno maybe Im wrong but if Joeporn wants his paris vid he should be able to get it.......albeit p2p or whatever(I dont condone 200 gigsys a month :)
Surely we should be able to do these things and play our games without these silly problems????There must be a real reason for this....More users gettin 30 gig accs do you think its really that? Im not qualified to answer but surely we should all be able to go about whatever we wanna do without seeing so much strain on the services......
 
AAAAhhhh I get what you meant now.

So basically even though we the lines can handle it, Telkom has not set the ADSL network up to allow this..

LOL I agree Echo.. I feel that I'm paying for my bandwidth, and while downloading a 700 meg file, I'm sharing 400 megs of MY bandwidth with somebody in the USA who gets his for free, even if its a SA based torrent site, I'm sharing my bandwidth with some 12 year old who's daddy pays for his bandwidth so its also free

Further more those 400 megs that everyone is uploading while getting his latest movie.. is screwing up my bandwidth

So sorry.. P2P apps can die!
 
Speculation or not, but I really believe with the current network as it is.. UUNET uncapped had similar results if you all remember, SAIX just has alot more bandwidth so needs alot more hammering to slow down. With these 30gig accounts it is very much on par with offering for the insanely low prices, uncapped adsl, in a way UUNET did.

With these packages, ADSL need more bandwidth, pure and simple.

The big question and answer, Telkom is atm throwing their toys so will they upgrade the bandwidth? Pure and simple, right or wrong, would you upgrade your service when you cant get your way with prices and act like a complete child, like Telkom?

I rest my case ;-)
