Less than a month ago I bought a new brand new 15 inch MacBook Pro from the iStore in the V&A Waterfront, a couple of days after starting to use this wonderful machine on which I'm now typing my adaptor started acting up, only working (the little green light on the charge cable actually turing on) about 75% of the time.
At first I thought this was just dust in the power duct or something similar, anyhow, over the weekend I could only get it to actually charge with the magsafe adaptor once this weekend. So, I googled the problem, and it seems that this is a general issue, and the advice on all the forums state that I should just take it in to the shop and they'll swap it out for a new adaptor.
On Sunday afternoon I set out to the V&A, which was packed with soccer supporters and after 45min finally found a parking spot and went to the iStore. I explained my problem to them, and was dismissed. Apparently their Tech guys don't work then and they could not swap out the adaptor, but would have to send it in and I could only do that the next morning, which I accepted, because I was told that I could receive a 'loaner adaptor the next morning, and that they would then fix mine in the meantime. So, 09:00 the next morning I was there as the shop opened and had to go through the whole explanation and testing of the adaptor for a second time. Anyhow, yes they said, it the adaptor was in fact ****ed and would have to be sent in. Could I get a loaner, no, they had none. Could I get one of the two adaptors in the store that had nothing plugged into them as a loaner, no, their tech guys needed them. What should I do? Well, i could buy a new adaptor. How much does it cost? R1300. At this stage I'm livid and say to the third person I now have had to deal with (a redheaded witch of a woman (not that I dislike redheads, I'm married to one)) that this is, and I quote "bull****", why do I have to buy something that was obviously defective from the start when they should be able to give me a loaner unit in the meantime. "I don't appreciate the language you're using", is the reply I get, to which I retort that I don't appreciate the service I'm getting from the iStore and their parent company Core.
Long story short, I need to work, so in the end after much fighting I had to buy another damn adaptor for R1300 from them. What kind of service is this I ask you. It has totally ruined the iStore for me, and from no on I can only say that my business will never again go to them, but that I will use DigiCape, from who I have always received excellent service in the past for all my Apple services, and I'd suggest you do the same. It is such a same that the Core Group are the official Apple distributors in South Africa, since all my dealings with them seem to have ended with me at the short end of the stick, but lesson learnt, never ever use the iStore.
