World Cup 2010: Fifa put 'pressure' on Nelson Mandela to attend final

The grandson of Nelson Mandela has said that Fifa has put "extreme pressure" on the former South African president to attend tonight's World Cup final.

Mandla Mandela said the final decision on whether his grandfather would attend the match between Holland and Spain at Soccer City would be made by Mandela and his family. He also said the world governing body did not "understand the family's traditions and customs".

What fscking difference will it make if he is there or not? He is a frail old man who will invoke more feelings of sympathy than euphoria. Leave him be, he doesn't belong to anyone.
 
The ANC will drag him there... don't worry. He is their lucky mascot.
 
Is he even able to lift the World Cup, let alone present it to the winning team of tonight's match? ;)

this is one time where i will disagree with your anc bashing ;)

Mandela doesn't go anywhere he doesn't want to to. The old man is as stubborn as he ever was.

His grandson said earlier today that he would like to be at the final (and i don't find this surpriseing at all) but will decide later if he feels up to it.

I don't even reckon he knows we are hosting it at times. His mind seems to be gone when you look at his face/eyes, just old age.

I don't think the current ANC leadership want him there as they are loathe for Madiba to steal the limelight from their current leader.

I agree the Association of Nepotists & Cronies would have preferred their "leader" hand over the trophy. But dragging Mandela there at his fragile old age is just wrong. Get Tutu to do it - the ANC would of course blow a top if that happened.

The man is old and often you can see he isn't aware of what is happening around him.

Geese, I wish they'd just leave him alone. They'll be satisfied when he has a heart attack or something, fusking idiots.
 
I think I see the strings on his arms and taped to the corners of his lips... and the guy pulling them from the room behind. :D
