Ok so I can't Skype, but...

VOIP is legal as from february this year - this is another case which can be taken to ICASA if Telkom prevents adsl users from using VOIP services
 
You seriously complaining about getting more for "less" ?
 
No but I'd like my service to make sense. Why screw up the port prioritisation so that VOIP (even skype on port 80) is unusable, but p2p works perfectly? Their port prioritisation has had the opposite impact from what they should be looking to attain. Low bandwidth apps like voip and gaming are unusable due to dropped packets and high latency, but high bw apps like torrents are ok...wtf??
 
Telkom merely wants to protect their revenues from short & long distance voice carrier services. After all, if you could bypass their exhorbitantly high costs by utilising VoIP, they'd make less of a profit, and we wouldn't want that now, would we?

I doubt it, it seems that the port shaping is not affecting everyone equally for some VOIP, P2P, gaming has gone to **** for others its the same as ever. To many people complaining for this to be a coincidence. Port shaping has become excessively aggressive.

384K line does 192Kb/s out in 384Kb/s in - your results show up just fine. Youre not hitting max there yet.
 
this is fine..I'm not complaining. compared to last week this is fantastic!

The web100 test was giving me results of around 20kbps (kilobits) last week due to port shaping.

now my Skype works again as well.

Just a thought, is all the trouble some people have been experiencing possibly linked to Telkom's "secret" contention ratios? I don;t know much about this stuff but couldn't the price drop brought on a lot more users, so telkom just increased the contention ratios to save some cash, and in addition to a perhaps slight increase in shaping have crippled some protocols on the more hotly contended exchanges?

This would explain why some are suffering and not others. Im in the heart of Sandton going through the benmore exchange. I would imagine it is probably bursting at the seams with ADSL subscribers, therefore ruining half my internet.

Any thoughts?
 
I used skype a week ago as well, and it was fairly reasonable ... and I am on 192 kbps
