I was going to get the HTC Desire for my upgrade THEN i stumbled upon the HTC Wildfire. Its like R3500 bucks cash. Why the hell not get that then?

Specs look very close to HTC Legend. I mean what wont i be getting? except screen resolution? & 1Ghz cpu?

I mean its running Android v2.1 and HTC has confirmed v2.2
Just sounds like such an amazing deal? Please help i'm so torn :(

2/3 the RAM, half the processing power and less than half the resolution of the Desire... Personally my biggest issue is that I'd find a touch-only phone with a screen any smaller than the Desire's highly annoying. Yes, my appendages are freakishly large, but I just wouldn't do it. Rather the Legend then if you don't want to spring for the Desire, but the phrase 'go big or go home' does come to mind.

Yes the Wildfire has half the processing power of the Desire which is a "super" phone but the same as the Legend which is a high end smartphone but for the price of a cheapy.
Yes i understand go Big or go home. But what for? What can the Desire do better for double the price?
btw my fingers are normal size less like pork sausage more like vienna worsies

Honestly, this is the best suggestion I can make: I dunno where you're at, but if you're either in Jo'burg or CT get your ass to the Lab88 store - the one in Jo'burg is in Cedar Square in Fourways. Unlike pretty much any other cellphone outlet, they have actual, working phones to play with. Do so, for a fair bit of time. If the smallish screen doesn't piss you off, especially after you've held it next to a Desire and a Legend, then go for it.

Okay so screen size. I would write off that one since the iphone 3G is 3.5" the wildfire is 3.2" same as Legend(by no means small) and as i said i have small fingers so thats not really an issue

Mostly, yes. Also amoLED vs LCD and screen resolution, but both are capacitive so unlikely to make a huge difference. I must be honest though, I didn't realise the Wildfire and Legend have the same physical screen dimensions. :o Is the Legend a helluva lot more than the Wildfire? I would seriously consider doing bad, bad things to people if it meant I could get the Desire's internals in the Legend's package - it must be the best-looking phone I've ever seen...

The Wildfire can be had for R2500-R3500. Legend is around the Desire's price maybe if you scratch around you'll find it R1000 cheaper
Only reason i think to stay away from the Wildfire is that some apps wont work on its resolution which will suck donkey balls but i cant determine which apps or if its a major amount of apps or only a few

Have a look at this. Screen size doesn't seem to be a problem even in portrait mode.

You need to think about the future too. Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) is going to require a 1Ghz CPU and 512MB of RAM, and the wildfire has neither. For this reason alone, you should avoid it.

The screen resolution is a little sucky, though. 240x320 vs the Legend's 320x480. Pity gsmarena haven't done a review yet... Techradar (http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/htc-wildfire-690067/review?artc_pg=1) have done an exhaustive one, though. Maybe have a read through?

Ya no sure i thought about that but in a year's time i would want a new phone. I don't even keep the same phone for a full year most times so by that time i guess i'll get the next thing. Future proofing a phone is like investing money in french family hatchback vehicles.

I also suspect the Desire would be like the Hero when Gingerbread comes out. There will be a 1.5Ghz or 2Ghz phone and HTC wont care to support the slightly older kid anymore

also:
“Yesterday have a very good conversation and some clarifications. 1 Ghz, 512 Mb etc its not minimal requirements but recommended one”

You see, Android 3.0 is going to have some pretty hefty GUI features. Apparently that awesome 3D album is something to go by. You can't do stuff like that on a crappy CPU, you know? :P

But yeah, you're right. By the time 3.0 is released, the Desire will be the older phone. What's sad, though, is that the Wildfire will essentially be obsolete, even though it's technically a newer device.

However, Vegeta, if you only keep a phone for a year, go for the Wildfire (if you're not willing to take a Desire). Only having a phone for a year essentially allows you to use whatever you like. I use a phone for a full 2 year contract, so I need to keep the future in mind, you know? :)

Can anyone comment on apps not working?

No, that doesn't sound right. Most apps are scalable, and only the crappy developers will release apps that are made for one single resolution.

You may be able to get a second hand Desire for not much more than a new Wildfire though. That's if you're ok with buying second hand. Check this site's classifieds.

Yeah, if you find hopelessly indoctrinated fanboys who got drunk and got a desire, and now that they are sober don't want to touch it because it's evil;-)

Speaking of scalable apps, I found one today that played great on my Tytn 2's 320x240 res, but on my Desire it was disastrous...and a Glu app nogal! Pity, 'cos it was quite a nice one. Brain Genius...oh well!

You have Andoid running on your Tytn 2?? Fully working, usable in everyday use?? Which version of android are you running? What guide did you use to get it working? I have a old Tytn 2 lying around doing nothing.
