Hi All

I went in to Telkom this weekend to get a phoneline. My plan was to use dialup with their R7 call service that caps a call to another Telkom line at R7.50 during off-peak time. The plan was to stay on for the whole weekend. I filled in the form and handed it in and the lady behind the counter seemed happy to fill in the Infinite call under the services part of the form.

Now I get an e-mail from her telling me that Telkom no longer offers the R7 call option on a phoneline. Is this true? If it is I hate them so much it is not even funny...

It stopped being callmore for R7 a couple of years ago, now its a choice of 6 packages of Helkom Suffermore, I mean surfmore and infinitiCall for R51.36, plus VAT

I've been using Infinite Call for a couple of months and this weekend I kept on getting disconnected. This might explain the problem.

You can still get it, you just need to be persistent. I had a nightmare experience with Telkom a few months back. I applied for InfiniCall and was told it would take 24 hours or something. I waited a few days and then proceeded to make use of it, staying online during callmore time in the evenings and weekends. When I got my phone bill later it was a wopping R2000. None of the infinicall charges had been deducted. After much phoning and unpleasantness I eventually got them to adjust the bills. I'll spare you the gory details but suffice to say it was the most unpleasant customer relations experience of my life and the incompetence of Telkom is truely staggering. Several people told me infinicall isn't available and they'll try get you to go for the SurfMore (ja right - they actually mean SurfLess) packages but then others say it is available. I proved that it is available by getting them to add it to my account after this ordeal even though by then I had iburst (this was in March). So just persist and you'll be able to get it.

afaik infinite call for new users has been removed, only old users with it can still use it.

What I love though is that the lady who accepted my form happily said that I could get it for R51 a month. So now I have to cancel the new line. I cannot believe it!

Depends on who you talk to. There are some that are adamant that its no longer available and there are others that tell you the opposite. I was able to get it added to my (with much effort) even after it was supposedly discontinued. If you really want it just be persistent and you should be able to get it. Just make darn sure its been activated before using it though!

Just phoned somebody who said it is still available. Thanks for the heads up about being careful. Won't be going on for the whole weekend during the first month that I have it!! I can't believe that it is going to take them 30 days to connect me. The line is already connected to the pole and everything. All they need to do is send a Techie to the exchange and plug me in. But this is going to take 30 days.

pkid, I have said it many time on this forum, TELKOM IS NOT ALLOWED TO REFUSE INFINITCALL SERVICE TO HOME PHONELINE USERS.

Now some people will come along and tell you Telkom can do whatever they want, but this is not true, Ignore them, they don't know what they are talking about. For Telkom to refuse Infinitcall to you, yet allow existing subscribers to continue to use it, constitutes DISCRIMINATION. Tell Telkom you demand the Infinitcall service. If they refuse it, tell them you know your rights and that you know it is illegal for them to refuse it to you. If they still refuse, tell them you will lodge a complaint with Icasa.

Then contact Icasa, and lodge a complaint. It may help if you get some kind of written refusal from Telkom saying that Telkom refuses to give you Infinitcall.

And ignore anyone who disputes what I say here. Trust me, I have researched this issue fully, and I knwo what I am talking about. TELKOM IS NOT ALLOWED TO REFUSE INFINITCALL TO YOU.

You kno Debbie2, one has to really admire how much effort you put in to bringing justice to telecommunications in South Africa :)

That callmore k*k is a load of bullsh!t ... I used to have that crap before I got ADSL and ended up spending almost the same amount of money I spend on ADSL .... because of the disconnections ... you call Telkom they say it's your ISP , you call your ISP they say nothing's wrong try Telkom ... it's very difficult to be an inetrnet user at home in this country.

i just got infinitecall on my line friday afternoon @15h00, with no problems. It was the most pleasent telkom experience ever!! (i've had quite a few bad ones, believe me).

So it is avaiable, but it seems not all telkom helpdesk operators are aware of the packages they offer, or they get a commission on selling u other offerings!!!

Just curious here.... i tried sending Debbie2 a pm yesterday and on hitting Submit was immediately and irrivocably disconnected heheh... have tried again this morning to forward the same message ....
No way of knowing whether you get it Debbie but if you dont twas just voicing my appreciation for your continued arguments on CallMore time.

WretchedToad :D

I moved house and while waiting for my adsl connection i was gonna use the R7 call plan again. But when i applied they claimed that it did not exist...then i claimed it was on the pricelist and they said the thing had not been updated.

BTW has anyone seen any of telkoms new ads...quite good i think ;)

I've had my line for a bout 2 months now. Ordered it with Infinitecall and its definitely working. Also, I had no problems obtaining it, no questions asked. I popped down to the Southgate Telkom branch one lunch time and put my order in and there were no problems. (Other issues - yes, but not on this topic) - so its probably who you speak to but its definitely still an option.

Also - was connected the whole of last weekend, not one disconnect. So its working alright.

I found that your ISP affects disconnections a lot. When I had an MWEB dialup it disconnected like crazy. I have a saix dialup now and its much better.

They better not remove the R7ish call... with ADSL set to be so highly priced, that would leave problems for internet users...

Interesting.... Our 2 lines were in my parent's name and disconnected some months back etc.(you know those little times when the light at the end of the tunnel is turned off??) When in May, I paid the bill and asked to be reconnected in my name, was told I had to re-apply as a brand new user, (although I could keep the original two numbers)and wasn't it funny that they just then had a new special deal going. (end of May) I applied and was told I had to wait for the inspectors to come out and see that we had lines. The earliest date they could give me was 3 weeks hence (20 June) strange but that same day applied, we were able to "receive" calls again. I phoned a few times askign why I could not be reconnected totally as I was receiving calls, and continuously got the same story about inspectors coming out to check if there were lines available andso the story went until the guy came out on the 20 June, blew a fit when I told him the story because his own employers were wasting his time! We were reconnected, then I got my "first" bill. R1900.00. When I queried why as I had been careful to use calmore time, Iwas told that I ahd no callmore time (I asked for it) because the particular "special" I had been given did not allow callmore time for the first two months because of the cheaper installation rates. (No installation tookplace as they just used the same lines) Silly me then looked at bill again and saw only identicall and charges for something called project jika 100. (have no idea what that is) but get this ... my line was diconnected and when phoning was told i ahd reached my credit limit, (ddn't kow there was one) but if i paid in even if not the full amount to bring it under my credit limit, I would be reconnected???? It drives me nutty it truly does. I am soooo confused now you won't believe.
