Thought I may as well start this thread seeing as everyones going on about guild wars and wow, thought I'd throw Eve in the mix of things.

Any one play Eve-Online in south africa, ive know a few of you do, but what do you think of the game comapred to other mmorpg's?

And are you having problems as i am with lag to the london servers?
 
doubt it...

UO is basically dead man..

eve has over 60K users and 12K users connected at most times//

;) my opinion is that eve is better than the other mmorpg's
 
With EVE you do the same stuff all over and over and over again. Extremely BORING !!!!! Im not forking out cash on boredom thankyou, I would rather watch paint dry.
 
I love the game, but I can't compare it as it is the first online game ive played. I'm struggling with the lag lately though, but its still playable. The game is cool if you get into a cool corporation. I play with my cousin and his mates overseas.We use ventrilo and skype for voice communications, makes team activities much more fun.
 
The only MMO I am playing at the moment is the well done Guildwars. Oh and I cant want for Tactica Online either. Turn, squad based strat game.
 
I only seem to lag when warping into a system and jumping through gates, so if you don't get attacked as soon as you warp in, you can fight.
 
I played the trial, defintely something i would consider playing on the long term, just don't have the cash+time to play a subscription game atm . I did find that offline-skill training [or rather real-time skill training] both very useful [because i can go to bed and my skills will train] but in the same sentence annoying if you think that you are paying for it...

All in all, game reminds me alot of X2:The Threat, just alot more strategic [resulting in the effect where you don't actually "fly" your ship, you just click on menu-items, both a pro and con depending on your playstyle].

In-game browser...very cool. I saw some player clips with some large scale wars [300 vs 300 etc] HECTIC! I'd probably go for the game just be part of something like that.

I think the game is somewhat boring in the beginning when you're "solo'ing" with your little ship and mining asteroids in empty space. It's clear the "core" of the game is about the organizations and the wars/trade between them.

I enjoy the game for the sheer scale of it, and the amount of things you can do. Plus the whole corporation thing is very interesting. Our corp is starting to get serious, got business plans drawn up and everything. Some guys take the game too seriously though.
 
Yeah the sheer size of the game is massive its the biggest game universe ever developed with over 25K diffrent systems to go through, and they keep building more and more.

The story lines etc that they build behind the game is really facinating too. Think some ppl do get a bit lost in the "Role Playing" part of the game sometimes, and it runs on a full economy system which is excellent.
 
Eve-Online is one of thee best mmorpgs out there.
I have yet to get bored while playing this game.

and it is money wll worht it.

The sheer size of this game and it's potential is amazing.
Currently the corperation i am a part of is at war with other corps

and I have never had as much fun

WOW is a hack and slash , there is no thought into the game. u go out and u kil things joy o joy.. the guild system sucks. (guildwars is a whole lot better)

at least in eve you need to think about what your doing..
 
Weird.. I could swear to kill onyxia or Ragnaros it isnt just hack and slash and he's dead.. Its alot of planning and recruiting enough of each class for various reasons.

The point, all of these famous rpgs got elements of using your brain, its not just hack and slash nemore.

Yeah i agree with you clipse most of these mmorpg can actually teach you alot, i mean theres a whole economics system behind them, but from the ppl that i know who have switched from wow to eve-online time and time again its always been the same reason. They never get any support form the support personalle when things go wrong.
 
The support in Eve is excellent. I have had problems sorted out in minutes, all at different times of the day.
 
Yeah and if you read the dev blogs they are running on a skelleton staff at the moment cos everyone is on vacation lol
