How do I get to browse the internet on my PC when I connect my HTC Desire via the supplied usb cable?

Is there a programme similar to Ovi for the Desire?

this method is going to be costly

So there is no way of using a Desire as a modem.

Not impossible. I found this page: http://www.htc.com/europe/howto.aspx?id=697&type=1&p_id=312

Haven't tried it, but it should do the job.

All you have to do is activate on your settings menu. Settings-->Wireless & networks --> Internet sharing

It will be one of the options in the USB connection type. Charge only, HTC Sync, Disc drive, Internet sharing. Just select it when you want to activate it.

And yes, it can be costly, so use it only if you really have to, and if you have a cheap /mb bundle.

When you plug your phone in there will be an ongoing event in your notification bar that will probably say 'Charge only', select it and then choose internet sharing. I think you need to install the HTC Sync software that was on the memory card that came with the phone before it will work, but I'm not sure.

And yes, get a databundle if you plan to tether your phone often.

PdaNet is another easy way to do this, find it for free on the market.

I haven't tested it yet, but if you are using a laptop or pc with wireless, and you are on Froyo, you can just go to Settings>Wireless And Network, and lower down is options to use your phone as a portable hotspot. Just make sure you put on security if you plan to use this in public, else those exorbitant data bills mentioned above could be as many times worse as all the people with laptops in the coffee shop with you. (Think every 1-2 second running full speed could cost you R2 out of bundle)

Yeah I think that should do the trick, used to work well from my old HTC Touch.

Thanks, I found HTC Sync and it does exactly what I need. I am on a Vodacom Top-Up 315 package and usually buy a 600Mb data bundle for R189 (from the R315) every 2nd month, but it seems I'll have to purchase a data bundle every 6 weeks or just get a 1.2Gb for R289 which lasts 2 months to expire.
