If I order now do you think there is a good chance ADSL would be installed by the first of October?

What is the point of getting a router if I'm going to be the only one using the connection? How does the firewall of the router compare to a software firewall?

Where do I get the micro filters?

Do I need to have the surge protector and the micro filters on hand when Telkom come to install or can I install these myself at a later stage?

Installation
===============
Dont know whats happening with Telkom, i know some people who order (like myself) and get it installed 2 weeks later, and others who have waited 3 or more months

Router
===============
I have an Ethernet ADSL Modem, hasnt given me any probs, so i suppose you can go with that

Micro-filters
===============
I got mine from a TelkomDirect (or what ever its called???)

I didnt have anything when they came to install my line, just got all the stuff after it was installed. I would recommend getting your filters before installation tho.

Installation Date - I know a Tarrot Card reader .... she might help
Router -
If you not paranoid - use a modem/router with a built in firewall.
If you are paranoid - Use modem as a bridge - install a firewall (smoothwall/ipcop/etc) on a standalone OLD PC and use that as a hardware firewall.
MicroFilters - you can get them after they install, but once they install you will not be able to use a normal line AND ADSL at the same time without them (R50 at telkom shops)
Surge Protectors - Yes, Yes Yes .... your whole PC setup should have a surge protector and your phone line shoudl be protected too.

I'd reccomend: Outside line -> surge Protector -> split one side to ADSL and one side to filter with phone

Not true - I don't have a microfilter on my ADSL jack, and I can make phone calls / receive faxes while on ADSL quite nicely, without any connection drops. I guess YMMV :-)

Yep...titanium is correct, you can "get by" without any filters, but chances are, your ADSL signal will be degraded and you do stand more chance of being disconnected

I got the telkom router, before knowing better. Has given me no problems though. It comes with 2 filters
